  1. Right now Larkin is ranked 40th in salary for centers. It appears he is asking top 12 center salary along the lines of Seguin, Point, and Eichel. If Larkin wants more than this then huh well now what? Yet Larkin controls this narrative with his NTC that just kicked in this season. Unfortunate timing. Yzerman faced this late contract negotiation situation with TB but they had a loaded team and Stamkos gave in to reason. Detroit may be facing Rebuild Chapter II.

  2. The problem Larkin will have is that captains of the Red Wings have, in recent history, taken a discount for the betterment of the team and that's an expectation.

  3. I think we’re overreacting. He wants to be here, his family is he, he’s always been here. I’m sure he will milk Stevie for what he can. We all know Stevie won’t overpay. He will probably sign for 8-8.5.

  4. You're spot on legs….Larkin is really good but he's not a superstar (on this team) and he's not worth more than 8 mil. I think he's tired of losing and if winning is more important to him than money at this stage of his career, I think he's gone.

  5. Legitimate question:. Why do people keep listening to the garbage that spews from David Pagnottas mouth? When was the last time he actually broke something? Has he ever broken anything? Everything I can ever recall hearing from him has always been either:
    A. Already reported by another insider, or
    B. Wrong.

Hell, we had this happen just last off-season. Remember how Pagnotta continuously reported that Nazem Kadri to the Isles was a "done deal" and that they were just working out the minute details? Then after signing with the Flames, Kadri went on record saying that he never even spoke to the Islanders and has no idea how that rumor got started? Does anyone else remember that?

Point being, everyone really needs to stop panicking about this. When an actual insider reports that something is wrong, then we'll have something to discuss. For now, it sounds like just another case of Pagnotta running his idiotic mouth.

  6. If the wings don't get it done by the trade deadline, it will be over-reaction theatre time from most talking heads.
As a wings fan, of they sign Larkin, great. If they move Larkin, fine. I'm good with it either way.

Prediction: Larkin's camp pushes this in to free agency to test the market and ultimately sign in Detroit after exhausting all of their leverage with competitive offers. Just like the stamkos scenario.

  7. 8M at most. He can walk if he wants more. I'm sorry but we've got a VERY young core coming up and honestly I don't think he's really going to be a part of the future.

  8. I really hope that Steve Yzerman and Dylan Larkin come to an agreement soon. The two obvious comparable center contracts to project Dylan Larkin's next contract should be in the range between Tomas Hertl $8,137,000.00 x 8 years contract and Mat Barzal $9,150,000.00 x 8 years contract. All three players are having similar seasons in regards to their stats. To me, Dylan Larkin's next contract should look like this: $8,871,000.00 x 8 years.

  9. As a Wings fan…I like Larks a lot, and I hope he stays with the team. That said…he’s NOT a $9+ million player. I think he’s the second best player on the team after Seider. If he’s really stuck on $9+ million…I say trade him for a boatload, because he does have a lot of value. Even as a rental.

  10. point and stamkos have the kuchey setting them up, bet thay'd get less if the were the only top talent on their team, Larkin has had to shoulder a lot, had we had 3 top guys on his line i think he'd have gotten 10-15 maby more per year.

  11. I think I've really been getting too wrapped up in the money with this. Remember we've sort of just exited the dark ages and are on the road to return to the playoffs. I don't want to return to it so quickly. The wings can afford to give our captain what he wants, and I think larking really needs more talent to help him out. What the wings cant afford is to loose their best player in free agency. I think there is a legitimate argument on both sides here, when you consider Larkins entire game and not his point totals and plus minus. On the surface level it looks bad, but think about the context within those years. Larkin has been really solid defensively throughout his whole career, and defense leads to good offence.

  12. Roope Hintz signed a 8×8.45 extension with Dallas, what does Larkin have that Hintz doesn’t? I don’t see why we’d pay him more than that.

  13. Wings don't have a player worth the price.of admission, especially Larkin….he's very good, not great. I would lose no sleep if we moved on for someone else at similar price/skill level.

  14. As a wings fan and a Larkin defender anything more then 9 mil straight up I’ll be mad about it I think 8.5 is the perfect amount maybe less less then a ppg player rn in a contract year 🤷‍♂️
