BREAKING: SAN JOSE SHARKS TRADE MATT NIETO & RYAN MERKLEY FOR JACOB MACDONALD & MARTIN KAUT



San Jose Sharks General Manager Mike Grier announced today that the club has acquired defenseman Jacob MacDonald and forward Martin Kaut from the Colorado Avalanche in exchange for forward Matt Nieto and defenseman Ryan Merkley. A quick look at MacDonald and Kaut and what they will bring to the San Jose Sharks and San Jose Barracuda.

  1. Is what it is. Not terribly happy about it but I was never gonna be in a merkley trade. In my mind merkley at worst is gonna be a 5/6 defenseman who can either run your pp or be a 1st line PP quarterback on your second pair. Like what I see if he plays in Colorado.

    Neito for Macdonald. We’re short on D so a sideways trade for need. Same here I would of liked a pick. But if they think they need another d to keep players where they want them I understand. Though i think you could of got some pick on top as nieto’s having a good year. And merkleys likely the better player between him and Kaut.

    Kaut hopefully finds his game or a role he can succeed in. I don’t know much about his game. So can’t speak on him. But hoping he works out.

  2. I'm good with Merkley/Kaut part, makes sense. It's the Nieto for a fringe NHL defenseman that makes no sense to me. Nieto was definitely worth some sort of a pick, and I'll take that over a nobody defenseman any day.
