It’s pronounced: Söderblom. The Winged Wheel Podcast is thrilled to be joined by Detroit Red Wings & Grand Rapids Griffins forward, Elmer Soderblom!
Tune in as we start the show by discussing Detroit’s overtime win over Erik Karlsson & the San Jose Sharks, including Dylan Larkin’s 400th point, Rasmussen’s strong game, Andrew Copp’s game-winning goal, & more (4:10).
We’re joined by Elmer Soderblom to discuss his surprising training camp & making the Red Wings roster, his 1st career goal at the LCA home opener, what life in Hockeytown is like compared to Frolunda in the SHL, how players like Lucas Raymond have eased his transition from Sweden, driving in Michigan, what Derek Lalonde wants him to work on in the AHL, playing against his brother, & more (12:50)!
With the NHL Trade Deadline getting ever closer, the rumors of Steve Yzerman pursuing Bo Horvat from the Vancouver Canucks are growing stronger. Tune in as we discuss the validity behind those rumors, how a Horvat trade & signing could affect Dylan Larkin’s contract, whether Hronek, Zadina, or Tyler Bertuzzi would be involved (as opposed to Kasper or Edvinsson), whether Yzerman could wait until free agency, if the rebuild is in danger, & LOTS MORE (31:50).
All of that & plenty more before taking your questions & comments in Overtime (1:02:25) – enjoy!

Its really cool that you guys can land interviews with players on the team
Jesus where do seagulls live
At least they waited till the episode was over before they started checking there phones
Detroit has a position of strength with their surplus of D prospects.
We're at a crossroad but cmon, who doesn't see yzerman making some kinda move (something we least expect) that has the whole fanbase saying "yzerman did it again…" made an amazing move and now we're better than we thought we'd be
I think you guus should be talking aboit why Lalonde took Matta away from Hronek since we figured out Walman and Sieder belong together
Would Yzerman trade for Horvat even though it would be essentially trading for a player in the same scenario as the one we are at with Larkin?
Redrafting the top 5 of Larkin's draft would be interesting
1.Draisaitl
2.Pastrnak
3.Ekblad
4.Point
5.?
Larkin, Nylander, Fiala, Toews, Ehlers, Montour, Bennet, Reinhart, Tuch.
2014 not a bad draft class, also drafter the same year:
Nedelkovic, Husso, Walman, Fabbri, Vrana
Wtf is the Michigan left?
Ah, Brad has been watching The Last of Us.
Where's the incentive to draft and develop well if you have to give some away in the rare instances where things work out? Uh,…having the luxury of that problem. "Giving up" those players sets you up for further good drafting and development which will extend your window. It isn't like franchises are going to stop trying to draft and develop well because of this.
On the having a d-man on the wing, I played d for a while. Then, I have played wing for a while. On the games where I have to go back to d, it's like I've never played d. I find myself out of position pretty often due to habits of playing wing.
dont pump for Horvat. A little patience is what im recommending. Kasper is coming next year and this is the first year for Lalonde. 2 more years and you can scream for buying players
We need to offload Bertuzzi while we still can. Something seems off. Yes he has had injuries that seem like they were bad luck. But what if its not? Its like a person that has an excuse for everything. We all know those people. Hard to fake injury but something is just strange about him and how things have played out.
Anyone know why Elmer is not playing in GR??
comment for the algorithm
Kuzmenko just signed 5.5m extension. Looks like Horvat is officially gonna get traded/go to free agency
My favorite redwing= Elmer Soderblom
🔥🔥🔥
I believe Timo Meier should be a bigger target for us guys. He’s been more consistent for the sharks for a lot longer. But again I would only want that if Larkin could stay otherwise it would feel like a slightly uneven swap. I do not believe yzerman is going to take the stay worse road I fully believe he wants to keep going forward and the young guys can earn their spots when they open up. The thought of these next few months is killing me though
Not to mention San Jose has no room to pay him at least what’s he’s worth. He’s at 28 goals currently will likely finish around 40-45 so they’ll need to unload him same with horvat but honestly I like Meier much better. Pasternak is signing with Boston as well Steve can call but they’re on pace for a record year i don’t see him leaving
The Star Trek quote in question is from The Next Generation S2E21 "Peak Performance" 🤓
I would rather have Hronek than Horvat, right shot defenseman are probably more valuable than a center at this time in the nhl. Horvat isn't very good defensively.
Cant imagine you guys not eventually joining the red wings in an official media capacity
Lord Elmer!
Congrats to Brad on the question. Good Answer. Systems are key to any team consistent performance. Most fans have no clue to what's going on or why? they watch the puck. Very tough for players to switch roles unless their working on it in practice… for some specific purpose.
Bottom Line – You cant get win against the top have of the league or in Playoffs if you don't have two very good PP and PK sets. OH and you need to win key faceoffs.
This team has stop the bad habit of turnovers in the High Risk spots…. Blue lines and breakout.
