Detroit Red Wings writers Kyle Knopp and Devin Little and producer Matthew Zator celebrate The Grind Line’s 100th episode by revisiting some greatest hits like Steve Yzerman selecting Sebastian Cossa over Jesper Wallstedt in the 2021 Draft and whether Dylan Larkin should be considered a top-line center in the NHL. They also touch on the Yzerplan and how long fans will endure a rebuild before they start getting restless and which Detroit sports team is the closest to bringing Motor City a championship.
Finally, the Grind Line bids farewell (for now) to Kyle as he embarks on a new chapter in his career.

Knopps audio is a bit bad. Maybe get some damping or move away from the wall in order to get rid of the echo.
Could the picking of Cossa over Wallstedt have a bit of internal politics in it? The had picked a lot of European (Swedish) players and the trans Atlantic scouts started to think "could we have a say?". I think Wallstedt was and is a better goalie compared to Cossa.
Great show as always.
Larkin is Larkin. I don’t like him. Yet it’s whatever.
I still believe in the yzerplan. This year has been riddled with injuries and hasn’t been the full team yzerman expected or anyone else.
We need a couple more pieces only and then the playoffs will be in the future.
No one expected vrana to go through what he did, Bert going down for 3 months, zadina being injuried, ect.
Yet we have seen Soderblom make some noise. Bergeron has stepped up, fabbri is looking great since coming back, walman and seider Chiarot and matta are a better pairing since the change up.
All in all. Still a few more years and we still have to see what happens with the trade deadline and then the off season.
Best of luck Kyle. Been great seeing you on the show and hearing your opinions and out takes.
Oooohhhh Noooooo! Kyle, I'll miss your bold predictions every week. I sure hope that the Hockey Writers organization is giving you a gold watch for being a regular for 100 episodes and leading the rush this year. There should have been a cake in this episode at least.
As to the Wings. I'm puzzled that the Kraken could be playoff bound in just their second season. I would be interested in a discussion of why the Wings rebuild will take so long when Seattle did not start with a lot of talent last year, yet here they are.
Good show as always and am looking forward to the reveals over the next few weeks.
I honestly think Steve wanted to take that next step, I do think the injuries of Tyler and you had Zadina I know he doesn't move the needle much and there were few other guys in an out, has slowed them down. Not a Red wing fan, but I'd still be very patient, it's Yzerman love what he has done so far and for Tampa Bay. Great video Guys! 👍
Wallstedt is better than cossa
Larkin is not a 1c and you do need an elite c if you want to win
Pretty much wrong on everything
My patient is very small right now. I gave Stevie Yzerman a 3 year grace period to clean up the mess Ken Holland left. The 3 years are up. He did what he could to clean up Ken Holland’s mess and did a good job, but little tangible progress has been made. This is unfair to Yzerman, but this is year 7 of being bad. I know that a Regime change should reset expectations, but that doesn’t get rid of the memories of watching bad hockey in 2016-17, 2017-18, and 2018-19. You guys are generous in how much time your giving Stevie Yzerman to complete this rebuild. A front office, no matter the circumstances they are inherited, should not get more than 5 years to rebuild a team. This is year 4. Yzerman gets one more year of no playoffs or no playoff contention. After that, if they don’t make the 2025 Stanley Cup Playoffs or win 40+ games in year 6 under Yzerman, I would consider this a failed rebuild and be in favor of starting over with a new front office. That may sound a little irrational, but 1 winning season out of 20 seasons since 2018 from a city’s big 4 professional sports teams can evolve your thinking to be irrational.
