Well, at least Bally went bankrupt spending on the right things
jigglywigglydigaby
This is as bad as *blue streak for pass, red streak for shot* bs
Madden2kGuy
Do they want people to stop watching hockey?
7_Bundy
I’ve seen ESPN do something similar. I think they’re testing it. Good lord I hope that they don’t skew the poll numbers like they did with the digital board ads to sell more advertisements. I fear they’re going to keep it and put an ad on the name graphic. Sigh.
xXDreamlessXx
I could see this being helpful for some, but I hope irt would be something you can add if youre streaming instead of the default
Shocklatecola
That’s pretty bad
foster-rx
God awful
zJaqul
Yeah, the coyotes defense is pretty terrible
rollsoftape
Thought it was a broken stick on the zone entry lmao. What is this shit and who the hell thinks it’s cool??

Pucktrax is back

Yikes
ChuckWallace987
I remember something like this from the 90s.
YVRkeeper
The only digital overlay I’ve ever seen used to decent effect is the penalty clock projected onto the ice. All this other shit is really distracting from the actual game.

“Oh shit, Bally’s going bankrupt, wonder what this means for me being able to watch the Lightning.”
*sees this shit*
“…I think I’ll be fine.”
surfdoc29
What on earth? The glow puck, ads in the glass, player name tags, like wtf?
Fuzzy-Chip945
This shit was almost unbearable
cateraide420
Side note: the overtime was awesome!!! The saves were some of the best of the NHL season
kapxis
Well, the main problem new people watching hockey have, is they can’t follow the puck. So this as a feature to turn on for new people watching seems good to me. But unfortunately that’s not how TV works and yeah anyone used to watching is going to hate this so it’s a bad idea.
KatnissBot
Good lord… it’s not that bad. Get your heads out of your fucking asses
OhkayBoomer
Hockey is finally getting popular and the on ice product has never been better….so naturally the NHL wants to fuck it up with banner ads and this nonsense.
TBNRtoon
However I do think it would be cool that when it all becomes 100% streaming we can have like a side bar where we can toggle on certain aspects of the game. Like puck tracker, player names, shift things, shot speeds ect.
philomatic
Honestly I think it’s a great way to get new people watching hockey. It too me a while to be able to follow the puck, and that’s always a complaint when I try to get new people into the game.
Silverbenji
Well if its not philly announcers this makes up for their mistakes. 😂
ContributionHead2086
What the hell is that trailing shit. Are the average Americans that aren’t into hockey to stupid to follow a puck.
BlOcKtRiP
Next they’ll bring back the lit up streaking puck . Don’t know what else to call it but annoying
Then-Following5004
Hot take: I love this being a newer fan to hockey. I’ve been watching hockey for 3 years now and I think this is fantastic.
Badgerdont
Yea whoever came up with this idea should be fired.
Nature_Cries_To_Me
When EA Sports makes playing their NHL game better than watching a real one..
korkkis
Remember the digitally enhanced puck? We had it in Finland in early 2000s I think … the puck glowed and left ”trails” of light
MedicSBK
Listen all I want is the power play cam from behind the net. Otherwise forget all of this.
Florida_Cheesehead_
How do hockey broadcasts help those of us with poor vision who would like some idea of where the puck is? Without infuriating most of the regular hockey viewer like this apparently has? Lol
ouejp
The names, I wouldn’t mind a cleaner integration, but yeah, that’s intense.
Tyfoid-Kid
Wish they could make this like Closed Captioning – let the viewer turn it on or off. I guess I get the problem but I’m older, I just put on my glasses to watch hockey.

Just some info, I work for the company that provides these graphics (don’t blame me please) and I’ve seen a lot of comments that once Bally goes under it will stop. It will not. The graphics and paid for by the NHL, not the individual broadcast companies. While each show has different graphics that’s more based on the producer for each one. It is interesting to see the feedback, I personally only like it on the replays and less on live feed, only ones I really like are faceoff pointers with stats, pointers on powerplay and the power play clock. If there are any questions about what goes on behind the scenes feel free to ask!

My video game is looking more life like and real life is looking more like a video game.

EriccusThegreat
Is this ea sports or an actual game?!? Can we not do this Bettman…
Vagard88
Hear me out. What if the had people up in a box, with an overhead view of the ice that could call out where the puck was and which player had it.

My instinct is to press Y/Triangle as rapidly as possible

Who remembers the blue puck?

Feel like I’m watching someone play NHL ’99 with NHL ’34 graphics. Like……what the FUCK is going on.
