The NHL All-Star break is here, so while Dylan Larkin represents Hockeytown it’s time for us to take stock of the Detroit Red Wings season.
Tune in as we start by recapping Detroit’s fun OT win over Montréal, including Kay Seider & Glenn Walman highlighting the Dads & Mentors trip, Michael Rasmussen, Moritz Seider, Robby Fabbri, Ville Husso, & other coming up huge in the win, & more (5:00). Also, Detroit’s snoozer of a loss to the Islanders & why ESPN even chose that game (11:45) before discussing rumors of the Vancouver Canucks being interested in Michael Rasmussen (potentially in a Bo Horvat trade), whether Rasmussen has hit his peak, how he fits the “Rutherford” type of player, & more (13:25). Also, a quick note on Bally Sports potentially being sold/changing, how it affects Detroit, the NHL, & the salary cap (19:15).
With Yzerman’s Detroit Red Wings squad over halfway into the season, it’s time to evaluate the team. How’s the Yzerplan going? Who’s team MVP, most surprising player (Berggren? Walman?), most disappointing (Chiarot, Nedeljkovic?), how are Seider & Lucas Raymond doing, is Derek Lalonde making a different? All of that & more (22:25).
Finally, our 2023 NHL Draft Prospect Profile series continues with Zach Benson of the Winnipeg Ice in the WHL – could he be a fit for the Red Wings? Where will he be drafted? (51:30)
All of that & plenty more before we take your questions during Overtime (59:50) – enjoy!

Trade Larkin and Bertuzzi
Ever since Bally Sports took over my interest in sports has declined. The subscription price was just too high. Bally took away my Tigers and Red Wings. Fox Sports Detroit was the Greatest. Sure miss them.
This trade deadline and offseason is going to define what the next decade of Red Wings hockey looks like. Re-signing Bertuzzi and Larkin means another decade of futility and 10th place finishes. They need keep tanking and building through the draft.
I think they resign bertuzzi for a short contract at low dollars and let Larkin walk. Buy low, sell high
The way Ras is playing at LW, they can easily let Bertuzzi go. Younger bigger player, much cheaper salary route.
Larkin is the only question mark before TDL.
The Illitches should definitely do it in house!
We likely wouldn't have Berggren in his role if Vrana and Bert (and Zadina to some extent I guess) were on the team. Ras probably wouldn't have raised his value so much. Same for Suter, who has raised his value. Injuries suck, but I'm glad that the Wings have players who can seize the opportunity, in the organization. Copp has 4 less points than Perron, albeit not goals but lots of even strength points, in the same amount of games. This season is a win, as far as I'm concerned. The struggle is real, but I think, at present, the season is a positive, on the whole.
