  1. I always wonder how much his reach gives him an advantage and how big of an advantage, genuinely curious.

  2. Here's a kid you watched and saw those flashes of brilliance. A giant out there that handles the puck in tight spaces like he's 2 feet shorter at times, but then suddenly pulls a toe drag followed by a wide deke that starts near his feet in Buffalo and reaches the international date line before it finally hits his backhand. I'm glad it's all coming together, he's so fun to watch.

  3. One other thing: Thompson stepped into the 1C spot early last year, but at the very start of last season, Casey Mittelstadt was slotted in that spot. It was Mittelstadt's injury, along with Granato's foresight to put Thompson on the top line, that helped propel Thompson. I do think teams are starting to solve for him a little bit, though. They're shading to him so much on the power play that 5-on-4s basically become 4-on-3s, and at even strength, good teams have figured out that he likes to be very patient, so the first guy waits him out and waits for a second guy to strip him. I think he's got the toolkit to overcome that, but what worked in the first few months of the season isn't working so well right now. He's still piling up assists, though, because he's a gifted playmaker on a line with two very dangerous finishers in Tuch and Skinner. So yes, Thompson is a top-ten player in the league, and, as long as Luukkonen doesn't get hurt, they'll be a playoff team, and a dangerous one at that. If they get the Bruins in the first round, that could be a very interesting series because they match up as well against Boston as any team in the league does.

  4. Have been watching hockey since 1979 and he is the best player that I have watched play the game.He reminds me of Mario Lemieux.

  5. Best thing happened to the Sabres was Jack Eichel, leaving he’ll never grow up and the new cochair he’s the answer of a lot of prayers . for the last 10 years, we had nothing to cheer about with hockey. Look at them now.

  6. Granato is the best sense Lindy Ruff ,Buffalo sabers are fun to watch now . Keep it up coach Granato. Thank you.

  7. I love Donny Meatballs so much, let's get that playoff berth 🤞

  8. These guys are the most fun I've had in a decade as a Sabres fan. You can feel it. It's palpable. Wanna race?

  9. If the Sabres complete this push for the playoffs successfully, ending the longest drought in NHL history… Granato should be a lock for the Jack Adams trophy.

  10. As a Red Wings fan, this is what I'm hoping and praying for Zadina. The dude has a mountain of potential and just needs to believe. He has that one problem that Tomas Tatar had where he just thinks too much and hesitates, thinking he has more time than he does. If he starts seeing and thinking the game faster I think Zadina could easily be a top 6 forward.

  11. What's crazy about watching the Sabres is there are so many young talents, you start to wonder who will develop into the all-star Thompson has now become! Will it be Cozens, Krebs, Peterka, Quinn, Rosen, Kulich and the list goes on. Incredible level of talent in this organization.

  12. Someone may have already commented on this coaching. I feel that many of the players on the Sabres have elevated their game because of the way granato coaches. Thompson, definitely but also Skinner's resurgence. You don't sit a $9m player in the pressbox like giving a little kid a timeout. You help work through the problems he's having. Dahlin is another example.

  13. This coach Don Granato is like coach Sean Mcdermott. Both coaches resonate to their players from their heart. They recognize the God given talents of their players. Yes Tage is a top 10 nhl player and will be for years. The Sabres will make the playoffs and will give the other team they play all they can handle. Not since the glory days of the french connection has their been this much buzz from the Sabres. Go go Buffalo!

  14. The guy can dangle which is Mario Lemieux like. As he grows and the Sabres become a full-fledged contender this guy is going to do more than a 5 goal game as his claim to fame.

  15. I think, given the right mentality and building more heavily on the D, this team can and will be one of the ELITE teams in the NHL. Same energy and comradery that the 06-07 Sabres had. They all grew together as a cohesive unit into the best team in the league. Seeing Tuch-Skinner-Tage look like the Sedin triplets just proves that.

  16. no playoff for sabres. just wondering what would have happened if they didn't put him with Eichel

  17. 3 years ago this kid with nothing when sir gets paid a lot left the team it open the door for him to become our next Captain Captain Jack go to hell

  18. He already has 34 goals in the half way mark in the season and is on pace to not only eclipse last years goal totals but to surpass 50 goals this season. The question of him being a superstar should be unquestionable should he reach such benchmarks in the 2023 season.

  19. It’s amazing what a coach can do in this league. Ralph Krueger and jack eichel both almost set that franchise back years because Krueger was absolutely atrocious and Eichel was a cancer and a waste of space. Thompson was on the verge of being put on waivers until Ralphie got fired and Donny Maetballs took over as interim coach. The minute he took over as interim head coach the Sabres went from being an unbearable joke in the league to all of a sudden playing like a team and scoring goals and Thompson just took off like a rocket. Rasmus Dahlin began to show why he was a generational defenseman and Jeff Skinner looked like the stud he is. Even guys like Victor Olloffson are just putting up points. Acquiring Alex Tuch and Peyton Krebs was the icing on the cake. They could squeak into the playoffs this year, but Don Gronato has done something special that makes this team so exciting to watch..
