Dirty hit no question, but he was to focused on Brown and slowed + turned right back into Polak. Polak expected him continue up the wall so he could finish his hit.
Welcome to the new NHL where refs call penalties because the guy got hurt. Boarding use to be if the player is skating directly towards the boards and the other player drives him into the boards. Bjorkstrand is skating along the boards and Polak is trying to rub him out of the play. Bjorkstrand doesn't get hurt if he doesn't slams on the breaks and turns back. Players with the puck need to be held responsible for putting themselves in these dangerous positions especially when they know a guy like Polak is on them. It's not like Polak is known for his offensive prowess.
Some of the comments on this video are dumb as hell. This was the dirtiest of at least 4 boardings by Toronto. Suspendible for sure but because it's Toronto, probably not. Someone needs to teach Toronto how to check before they end someone's career.
Polak's last stride right before he pushed him looked like he tried to squeeze around Bjorkstrand's body and push the shoulder. But then Bjorkstrand turned at the last second so Polak just flattened from the back. Agree with the 5, not so much the misconduct. But it was severe so I get it.
These hit's aren't dirty. Is it a penalty for boarding, yes. Is it hit a 5 minute major, absolutely not. Polak plays a tough in your face game, especially in those corners and you've got to be ready for it and he's just finishing his hit and pins him in good. If you watch the end result to the hit, it's not a full hit to the numbers. His body is turning as he makes contact and follows through. Nothing more here but a 2 minute for boarding, so quit your crying about dirty hits, because you're an idiot if you think other wise.
let's be real, what else is Bjorkstrand supposed to do in that play? He pretty much has to stop and "turn" (even though it doesn't really look like a turn to me) or else he would skate by the puck.
Why is Bjorkstrand turning like that though? he just stops and turns his face to the glass when he should have just kept skating along the boards, its his own fault.
What was with Columbus last night? Torts and everyone up in arms for the hits? They claim that the Leafs got away with a few Hits from Behind…?? EVERY SINGLE TIME a Blue Jacket got the puck in the corner they would turn and faced head down into the boards.. even with this hit.. Bjorkstrand knew Polak was coming, why didn't he stand up and absorb the hit and make a play.. Polak should have let up knowing he was probably gonna do that tuck his chin to his chest and … but earlier in the game they were freaking over Eric Fehr… What's with these guys.. take a hit instead of just turning into the boards. Even Bergeron did it the other night… and he should know more than anyone if your facing the boards you are in a very dangerous position.. anything can happen intentional or not…

How come the announcers never talk about how players turn at the last second? It was his own fault
Note to self: Draw a penalty by turning away at the last second before being hit.
GOT IT!
Two nights in a row we have an ejection now. Including the Tkachuck situation a few days ago, it's been/will be a busy week for the NHL player safety!

By the way he went down I think he was out
Toronto is so desperate they starting to play dirty garbage team
No one gunna say anything about the title?….
Jackets player turned. Terrible call. 2 min boarding call at best.
Laine > Polak
Michael Scott would freak out about these titles.
That's an embarrassingly late arm by the ref, penalty or not.
suspension looming.
Polak has no place in the NHL. Dirty bastard.
They missed boarding calls all night, yet called the weakest one. Smh
no way that's a dirty hit
polak commited to hit well before the other dude turned the opposite way and exposed his back to him.
Again, terrible referring. I say this only because the ref was going to let that go until he saw the player wasn't getting back up.

Polak has to read the last second turn
When I first saw the title I had to make sure I wasn't on pornhub

right call but the columbus guy kinda put himself in a bad position polak wasnt letting up no matter what
Marner got hit like that but no penalty

these titles are making me feel uncomfortable.
If you watch that little slash right b4 the hit is basically code for brace yourself.
he turned, still have to call it though.
Polak always makes these stupid plays, I think he lost some brain cells after getting knocked out by Clifford
THE ONLY REASON HE'S BLEEDING IS BECAUSE HE GOT HIT INTO THE PHOTOGRAPHERS CAMERA HOLE IN THE GLASS
Love how it wasn't even called until he was laying on the ice for a three count
"and the arm goes immediately" *ref sees hit then looks away looks back sees that he's hurt and then puts arm up…

I can't see this as boarding. It's an odd collision yes. But not boarding…
Should have saved that hit for Dubinski. That goon does that hit, on a nightly basis.
How many people have seen a hit this year very similar to this one with nothing called-and no suspension?
Why is Bjorkstrand turning like that though? he just stops and turns his face to the glass when he should have just kept skating along the boards, its his own fault.

don't turn your face towards the boards…
He is at his own risk when he spins low into the boards.
Polak's reasoning: "Pretend like you are hurt as well at first to avoid getting fought and receiving a game misconduct"
If I ever see Polak in public I am going to send him to the hospital for hurting my boy Oliver
