  1. I’m really excited for the remainder of the season. It would be really sweet (but very tough) if the Oilers win the division for the first time since 1987. I would love to see a deep run again this season and the boys gain some more playoff experience.

  2. Obviously agree with them needing some more support on the blue line. I could 100% see them gunning for a defense rental, no idea who though.

Puljujarvi is a weird case. His point totals are not in his favour and it’s undeniable that he has failed to reach his potential. However, he has shown some signs of serious improvement in some aspects. His defensive game is decent, he can lay good hits and is good at breaking out of the zone and keeping up offensive pressure. All great qualities. If he could get more confident and lay into some shots more, he’d be a good two-way forward. It’s just that the Oilers have given him so much time to develop and not gotten a lot of returns. I honestly am not sure exactly what you do with a player like him at this stage.

  3. Blueline is the Achilles heel of this team, even moreso than the Skinner/Campbell tandem. Nurse-Ceci is supposedly their top pair, but they need at least one more top 4 defender to push guys down. Right now, I'd say pretty much every one of their defencemen is playing a spot or two higher than they should be.

  4. Campbell has bounced back recently. Oilers are gonna be awesome after the all star break.

  5. McDavid, Draisaitl, Nugent-Hopkins, Hyman, 4 Oilers with 60+ points. No other team has more than 1 60-point player.

There are questions about defense, and goal-tending, but this is NOT a 1-man team of McDavid.

  6. The Oilers are a team that take some time to get rolling but when they finally do they're dangerous

  7. Overall I’m pretty ok with the oilers so far. It’s good to see Hyman and nuge put up numbers. Obv we need another piece at defence, even with Desharnais being a solid strong addition it’s clear there needs to be more.

  8. The Oilers could use an addition on the back end and a depth forward. I think Holland will continue to be patient and not make any big blockbuster moves like Chychrun or Kane.

Gavrikov would make sense, but the rumour is that CBJ wants a 1st AND either a prospect or a 3rd, which would be too much. Reuniting Puljujarvi with Liane plus a 2nd would be ideal, but probably not enough. At a more reasonable price, they could target Schenn from VAN as the price for that rental would be at most a 2nd and possibly just a 3rd.

Theoretically the same would apply to Joel Edmundson, but word on the street is that he's playing hurt. Besides he's paid more AND the ask is supposedly even higher than Gavrikov.

As for depth forward, Domi and Lafferty would be a good get from CHI, an ideal rental would be Toews, but there are a lot of moving pieces for him. 1) He would want to join EDM as he has a full NMC and would have to waive it. 2) They would need to have both CHI retain the cap as well as pay a 3rd team a pick to retain additional cap and bridge the deal.

Alternatively, Bjugstad from AZ has a low cap hit and could fit under the team cap. Other potential depth Fwd rentals could be Noel Acciari or Josh Leivo from St Louis.

  9. The oilers have such an inept management team. How do you have a guy like mcdavid for almost a decade but still have to fight for a wild card spot? Laughable.

  10. I really hope they make a trade to get someone on the blueline to help out the goalies more, I'm very excited about the remainder of this season.

  11. While there definitely is an argument to be made that Skinner belongs at the all-star game, I feel pretty safe in saying that he probably got in because Oiler fans were participating in the all star vote in high numbers for Draisaitl's sake then threw a vote Skinner's way while they were there.

  12. You're right about Oskar Klefbom.. MAN, we've missed him in Edmonton. I'd trade 2 Nurses for 1 Klefbom. I remember watching what was one of his last zoom interviews in 2020 when he was home in Sweden and he was so emotional, I'm pretty sure he knew it was over then even though you never want to give up hope. He was great. If only we could find another D man like him.

  13. It’s been much more relaxing as an oilers fan since the beggining of the season. They have played much better and that includes the d and Campbell has played like the all star last year.

  14. Gotta disagree. The Oilers were quite easily stopped at the conference finals. Playoff hockey does NOT favour flashy speed and skill like McDavid and Draisaitl, especially when referees call less penalties. Look at their (McDavid and Draisaitl) stats against the Avs. Goalies aren't any better, D isn't any better. They'll be out in round 2, conference final again at the most.

  15. goaltending has been solid lately main issue is defense for Oilers, Puljujarvi or foegele will be traded by Feb 12th (when Yamo comes back from LTIR)

  16. I could possibly see Puljujarvi being in a trade to Columbus for Gavrikov not one for one but I feel Puljujarvi playing with Laine would be beneficial for both players. And overall I really like how the team is playing we have had some good games and some not so good that we still won, Campbell is finally hitting his stride, Skinner is just blossoming into his own, Hyman and Nuge just racking up points, and Klim Kostin is perfect on the Oilers. I would love to see Holloway get some more goals as well as Yamo to comeback healthy and get on his game.
