25% retention makes it the same cap hit as Beauvillier so the islanders make a money in money out deal
The Griffin Reinhart trade tree needs to be revisted now.
The losers in this deal, as usual are Canucks fans
As an isles fan. Sad to see those guys go but itâs the right move. Iâm hoping we extend Bo but the chemistry doesnât click right away. I want the isles to stink but show some promise in the last 10ish games. Would love to add at top 10 pick in a stacked draft, keep Bo, and still have a team good enough to compete for years to follow.
I think they retained 25% bc now horvatâs salary is identical to beauâs. I think both teams just wanted to keep it simple and do an exact salary swap. Maybe Lou tries to get 1 more deal done with the extra 2 mil in cap along with varlomovâs expiring deal. Kraken and kings both need better goaltending to be seen as real threats and the isles have an all star warming the bench most nights. Would love to see Lou give up Varly (25% ret for a 3.5m cap hit) and a 2nd for kaliyev and quick. Gives kings a good and cheap goalie along with 2.5m in cap. Giving up kaliyev is a lot but there arenât many teams willing to let go of all star goaltending, especially without good incentive to do so. Isles need youth but also need players than can compete now. I think a trade like this would satisfy both teamsâ needs.
As an Islanders fav, youâre really looking at Beauvillier with very rose colored glasses.
I never considered the possibility of flipping him at the deadline if they fall back out of the playoff race. If they retained another 50% they could get like 3-4 firsts for Horvat. He would be a ~$2M player and any cup contender would bet the farm on acquiring him. If they re-sign him long term, that's also a win.
Is it really pronounce Ah-Tew Rah-Tew? I would have thought it would be Rat-Ey
good trade for vancouver. horvat has flat lined the last couple of weeks.
Raty is a high ceiling low floor prospect but he's got the tools. He just needs to work on his skating, which is what they said about Horvat.
Can't put conditions on resigning anymore Steve come on now
The AHL team is The Bridgeport Islanders
Looking from the outside, this is a huge haul for the Canucks
Bridgeport changed their name from Sound Tigers to Bridgeport Islanders. Been living here my whole life; no idea what a sound tiger is.
As an Isles fan I'm all around happy with this trade. If Raty blows up or the Isles don't extend Horvat I'll change my mind but for now we get a very needed goal scorer, we shed a high dollar low producer, but that also gives Beau a fresh start elsewhere where I hope he gets his game back because I do love him still.
Feel like van could have done better with Horvat deal especially the protected first. I would have wanted atleast a 2nd if the first is protected
Not sure I understand from an Islanderâs perspective. They are not a lock to make the playoffs, unless they are seeing if Horvat can help them get into a spot and try and extend him prior to the deadline. If the Isles are out of a playoff spot by the deadline and he is not extended, I guess they can flip him to try and get their first back.
Vancouver did fine. Could have done a little better with some depth picks or something, but fine.
NYI… if they don't have a deal with Horvat already in the works and this is just a rental… yowza… The idea of them flipping him again actually seems plausible, even if it is a lateral move.
what in the fk vancouver. horrible.
I wish we got rid of Miller instead last year but no one was biting hindsight is 2020 if a winger gets 100 points and no one wanted to make an offer thrn it's either sign them or let them walk for nothing. Dammed if you do dammed if you don't
Well have to see how
A: These picks and players play out
B: if horvat not only resigns, flipped or keeps the production going
Tank for Bedard, Canucks! I'd love for the guy to play for his beloved Canucks and getting rid of Bo Horvat will definitely help the tank. We'll see in a few years who 'wins' this trade though, if Horvat re-signs with the Islanders it could be a good deal for both, if he signs elsewhere than the Islanders have just given up a lot for a rental. And i hate the Islanders, so please bring on the drama lmao
Is it weird that I think it's a bad trade for both teams đ. I hope it works out though.
Leafs fans won this trade as they can now stop wondering what is happening with Bo Horvat
My heart hurts
Seems like a lose lose trade to me. Islanders get Horvat for this season, then are either going to pay him based on a career year OR they let him walk to free agency. It's not like the Islanders are contenders, they aren't even in a playoff spot currently. This is a waste of prospects and picks for a season that isn't a "go for it" year.
For the Canucks, they blew it with the JT Miller signing and forgot that Horvat is the better player despite not putting up as many points last season. They lost their most important locker room leader, and now the dominating voice there is Miller. Furthermore, they didn't get the assets they could have gotten from another team if they retained more salary. Surely, the Bruins, Golden Knights, or Hurricanes would have given multiple firsts, and a couple of prospects for a 50% retained Horvat. Instead the Canucks get a 25 y/o Beauvillier who will be a UFA after next season, which means they'll have to trade him at the deadline next year or else lose him for nothing. In the meantime, having a 25 y/o Beauvillier on your roster will not help you compete, nor help the rebuild. Beauvillier may play great in Vancouver, but I still don't understand why the Canucks wanted him.
Bridgeport Islanders*
Wish nothing but the best for Beau, but frankly he has been a liability the last 2 years, Raty has good upside but is a pass first C and we already have one of the best of those, the 1 will be what it will be, nobody can predict that. I can see 7.75 x 8 here, but lets see what happens, also with the 25% held back the Isles as per Cap Friendly stand today with over 11 mil in deadline cap space, I wouldn't be surprised to see another move in the next couple of weeks.
Can't add conditions upon re-signinga player anymore. They put an end to that in 2020
I love how RĂ€ty's name totally has some Finnish magic with those 2 dots that make it sound like "Ratu". Looking forward to seeing some Finnish magic on ice. I'd pay to see that show. I bet there'd be singing. The singing is my favourite.
Nucks should of waited to the deadline. They would of gotten more, or at least better players. Another bad trade from a badly run organization.
Dangit… the more you speak the more I don't really love this trade. Here's hoping they didn't rush it…
Islanders win this one. Besides his hockey skills, Bo Horvat is a leader and an All-In guy.
Vancouver has nobody with Boâs commitment. Itâll be a tough rebuild.
We retained 25%????!!??? I didn't know that…omg… terrible trade
When Tampa played the Islanders in b2b years in the playoffs. Beauvillier was the most dangerous player on the ice for the Islanders. He had speed and skill. His trade to Vancouver will greatly improve his offensive numbers for sure.
Beauvillier's career high is 39 pts but that's in 68 games. Could have been 50. Don't think he'll ever get 70 like Steve suggested but 50 is realistic, but this year and last he's under half a point per game so only time will tell
Lou needs to be fired asap. That's my comment.
Isles won
If I was the islanders I would consider trading up for more than Bo is worth at the trade deadline. Some teams get caught up in the deadline and over pay .Wouldn't that be a blockbuster.
How in the hell can you be holding the best player in the deal by far, and still be forced to take on a contract that doesnât fit the needs of your lineup (another dime a dozen 4 million plus per year winger in AB). On top of that be forced to eat 25% of Horvatâs remaining salary, plus get bent over on pick protection? Lou took Alvin to the woodshed on this deal when you look at what rentals were going for leading up to last yearâs deadline. Especially when you consider none of those players were on a 45+ goal pace.
At least someone still calls the Bridgeport Islanders the "Bridgeport Sound Tigers" other than myself lmao
wow, steve, this was incredibly boring analysis. couldn't get through it. expect better from you.
Canucks tank, wins lottery and gets Bedard. Canucks win.
Long Island represented in the All Stars by long time Islander; Bo Horvat.
The Islanders are probably not making the playoffs, and I find it weird that they don't know that.
RĂ€ty is the unknown factor here. He was for a long time talked about going 1st overall in his draft, but for some reason fell to the second round. I think he's a steal at where he was drafted, and I think it's fair to see him as a 1st round prospect. The question is if he'll pan out, and I think there's a chance he'll eventually rival Horvat in quality.
This doesn't matter what so ever Canucks will Never Ever win the Stanley Cup.
lsl
Great analysis! Only nitpick is that you called them the Bridgeport Sound Tigers, when they're the Bridgeport Islanders.
