  1. Nope 👎
    He’s a great player.
A Michigan born and bred local hero.
But 9 million a year for 8 years
for a center who wouldn’t be the top center on a serious contender…..
    Nope 👎
Let him go, and get some nice draft picks for him.

I honestly think Seider would make a better captain.
And I’m not alone in that sentiment.

  2. I wholly agree that Larkin isn't worth 9 million dollars and the offer at 8 million is far more realistic. What an absolute nightmare situation this is becoming, I'm wondering what Steve Y does if Larkin isn't signed by the deadline – it's a proper damned if you do damned if you don't moment for him. Has Larkin got the team over a barrel with this contract??? It certainly looks like it!!!

  3. He’s delusional thinking he is worth 9m a year. He’s a 2nd line center on a good team. That’s all he will ever be.

  4. Larkin should have took the deal. Not team friendly but fair. People who say he should get around 9 or more a year don’t understand the salary cap era. What about Bertuzzi, Hronek, Seider, and Raymond? All those guys will get significant raises in their new contracts. Believe in Yzerman and his plan

  5. The future of this franchise rests on this one decision. If we sign this bum to anything over 8mil we are going to be an average team at best. We will never win a cup with Larkin as our No1 center making that kind of money

  6. If he wants 9mil (which I absolutely don’t think he’s worth) then I’d rather the term be 7 years rather than 8. Ideally I’d like to see an 8×8 signed but if not then just read him and get some assets. The problem is Larkin has a no-trade clause this year so if he doesn’t want to get traded then he walks and the Wings get nothing for him, but I don’t see any team willing to sign him to the 9×8 contract that he wants. It’ll be interesting to see how this all plays out.

  7. Yzerman don't play. He wont hesitate to move larkin out if he wont re-sign. He moved st. louis, Drouin, mantha.

  8. @legorock999 I want your honest opinion I’m a diehard Red Wings fan and I can see this situation going one of two ways either us trading him or Larkin resigning, What do you think is honestly going to happen with this Larkin situation? Also if we do trade him before March 3rd what do you think the Wings could receive in return?

  9. Stevie Y took less money on purpose so that the team could have more money to get more talent and compensate his teammates. Now that is a captain.

  10. If true Larkin is in the drivers seat in this situation. NTC says it all, he can easily say no to waiving it. If he does waive it he will select good teams that may not have the cap space.
Or another scenario where a good team (with permission) tries to do a sign and trade at the 11th hour and it may not be easy,
Plus a good team will NOT want to break up their roster for this trade, or send the greatest of assets back to Detroit.
Ultimately for the largest payday Larkin could just go through TDL hit UFA and select the team with the max deal.

  11. Here is where the problem is going to come up. As Great as Yzerman is as GM He is known for his hardnose negotiating. If Larkin doesn't Sign. You lose him for nothing. There would be no reason for him to wave his no trade clause. At the end of the year, he signs to a whichever team he wants. This where the hardnose Negotiation is a problem No big-time free agent is going to sign with Detroit unless Yzerman is signing them for a 7 year deal and or overpaying. And if you don't replace Larkin with either a trade or Free Agent, you set the rebuild back 3 years.

  12. Larkin is not the leader who will take the Red Wings to the playoffs let alone the Stanley cup. Larkin either needs realize that and help the next star, or go to be a second line center on a team that won’t make the playoffs either.

  13. No way would Stevie Y offer 8mil for 8 years. Those are the contracts that Holland wrote that made the Wings second class.

  14. Of course $8M was rejected yesterday with Horvat going to NYI. Now knowing when Detroit offered Larkin 8×8 would be far more telling.

  15. Larkin is worth around 8.5 million. That is what he will get signed for. Anything more than 8.5 million is an overpay.

  16. 8×8? 9×8. Give him the extra million to he can get paid 8 mill a year after all his tantrum cheapshot fines hahaha

  17. Red Wings fans yall over reacting. Cap is going up, he's not gonna get another big contract and this is how he's gonna compensate for not hitting contract year after cap goes up. He's worth 9. He's the captain, the face of the franchise, he went to Michigan. Yall aren't the ones paying him anyways.

  18. I don’t see how getting rid of Larkin puts us back in a 5 year rebuild we still have copp for a third line and a C prospect who will probably be a second line guy either way we still need a #1 C

  19. I’m cool with whatever Y does he has my full trust I think he drafted kasper knowing Larkin might not resign for cheep

  20. Imagine playing a sports game and living your dream since a kid and then complaining about 1 million while you're making millions. Bye Bye Larkin. 👋 Good luck finding another team and getting paid like McDavid as a second line center. Taking advantage of our rebuild is a dirtbag move.

  21. No, I'm getting annoyed with Larkin. He being difficult just to be it because he has a "No trade clause". He isn't worth 9 million. Overpaying is what got wings where they are currently, a rebuild. I trust Yzerman
