  1. NIETO IS BACK! I am stoked. At the start of the season, you could see that kauter was kinda in his last bid to make the team. He's been good with the eagles, but can't seem to translate it to the avalanche. I hope he finds his game and wins a permanent spot in SJ. All said, i feel like this gives all parties the chance to shine and chase their dreams, and i think it's a great move for both teams

  2. I know everyone is saying the Avs won this trade, mostly due to Nieto, but I think this works for the benefit of both teams. I hope Kaut and Merkley find success on their new teams.

  3. Like getting Nieto back. Hes trustworthy and reliable. Getting rid of Kaut was much needed. He did t do much or live up to his ranking when he got drafted. Ahl material, not NHL.

  4. Happy to have No. 83 back. As I remember, Nieto's sister has Down syndrome and autism, up to the point that she is almost unable to speak, and "eighty-three" is one of the few phrases she is actually able to say, and because of that he will never play under a different number.

  5. yay Nieto!

is Sakic handling trades as president? I thought they promoted Chris MacFarland to GM because teams weren't answering calls from the Avalanche front office anymore

  6. Solid hockey trade by both GMs
Avs know what they're getting in Nieto and clearly like him.
McDonald gets a chance to play regular NHL minutes on a weaker team
Kaut might get some middle 6 opportunities and PP minutes, perhaps with his fellow Czech Hertl
Merkley will see what it takes to be top D-man behind (mainly as an Eagle this year)

  7. Now Neets Beats is peacing out?

It's the last line of Matt Nieto's rap which was apparently the win song in the 14-15 season for the Sharks. If you look up "Matt Nieto rap" (without the quotations) on google there's a clip from the "Road to the Stadium Series" from that year that has the rap.

  8. Hope Kaut does well in San Jose, really liked him as a prospect but never really put it together. Was basically invisible or a detriment playing 3 minutes a night. Hopefully a change of scenery works for him. Sad for Francouz tho as his countryman and best friend is gone.
Macdonald is whatever. We brought in englund to compete for that 7th D spot and englund has played better. That being said both of those players were leaders on the Eagles so it’ll really hurt them.

As for what we got back, really happy with getting Nieto. Everyone knows what he brings and he’s really good at it. Consistent, good defensive play and PK, and occasionally chips in offensively. Also a Long Beach native. Here’s the part I’m worried about as an avs fan though: Ryan merkley. I know he dropped about 10 places because of his attitude problems, and a lot of teams had him on their do not draft list on 2018,including the avs apperently. From what it sounds like he’s really struggling at the nhl and AHL level, and still has some attitude and effort problems. It also sounds like he’s terrible defensively and still hasn’t worked it out completely offensively. It’s another really tough project for the avs development, but it’s worked out before, like with nichuskin. We’ll see if Cronins team with the eagles can straighten him out and if he can be a solid 2nd or 3rd pair guy with the avs eventually. If so it’ll be a huge win.

Although even without the prospect, it’s still a win for the avs. They got a solid, nhl player that we know will play well. He has before.

  9. When I first saw sharks had done a trade my immediate reaction was is that all for Meier! Shame Merkely didn't work out, maybe a change of scene will help both him and Kaut.

  10. merkley demanded a trade, so at least we got a fair deal. although i think merkleys untapped potential is higher.

  11. Dam it took my eyes like 5 seconds to see this said Nieto to Avs and not Meier. It's possible I'm anticipating Meier to NJ a bit to much lol. And yes I know it's unlikely, cautiously optimistic here.

  12. This is a gr8 move for Avs😊
Nietto helps esp if Helm gone as rumors suggest he is done for the year😮”oh no
    Oh yes”
And we love d men who skate and will b a future possible high skill d man😮

  13. i think MacDonald is the best player in this trade, i hope he will finally got real opportunity, Colorado defence is too loaded.

  14. How guy who didnt get play time in a team that has roster full of bums and ohl level players gonna do anything 😀 on the other hand colorado is full of stars so maybe he gonna shine

  15. so Nieto only plays between SJS and COL… I guess it's a destiny that he'll sign with the Sharks in the future

  16. Canes Stadium uniforms just dropped! The helmets are the centerpiece for me. The flags on the pants look great as well. Nothing awesome about the jersey itself but all together it looks really good.

  17. I think this trade could open the gates. I don't know about flood gates but this is the start. I think it is hysterical how Lebrun and Friedman put out a complete different set of rumors every day and people take it as gold.

  18. Kaut never got bigger. I remember a story where Sakic said I don't need a top 6 guy, I need a grinder that can hit/take hits. And he just wasn't able to adapt to the position the team needed him in. He has a nice shot when he uses it (in the AHL) but yeah.

I think to me though, he's the first "foreign" player that we ever got in Loveland after becoming an AHL team. ECHL and CHL was very very rare to see a non USA/Canadian player. So that was neat, to the point that the first season they had him doing segments during stoppages saying words in Czech. It made us feel like a part of the bigger picture. I hope he gets things together in a new spot. He was probably the highest draft pick to come through as well since Rantanen was in San Antonio, but never played in Loveland as he went up to the NHL before the switch.

  19. Jeez for a sec I thought Neito was abbreviated for Nino Niederreiter! Lol!
    Phew

  20. Decent trade, nothing groundbreaking. Good to see Nieto back but MacDonald had an awesome personality so as a fan, kinda sad to see him go. Had high hopes for Kaut but I think he's behind in development, didn't get much ice time while in the lineup

  21. Hopefully in a few years we see Nieto return to SJ, mainly because I've been liking his play this season and with how well he's been on the PK, also it would be really fun to see his career only being in SJ and COL. Hope the Long Beach native gives you guys another shot at a cup! Go Sharks and Avs! 🙂

  22. I've seen Jacob Mcdonald play pretty well, they did wonders with Jacob Middleton so we'll see if they can do the same for him. As an Avs fan I never saw much with Kaut, but I like him and wish him the best. Colorado is definitely soft on there former bottom 6 forwards, but, I've always liked Nieto and never wanted him to leave, he's a solid penalty killer and the work ethics always there.

  23. Was sad to see Long Beach go before, so naturally I am stoked to see him back in the Burgundy and Blue! MacDonald was a good story and no doubt a great teammate so happy to see him maybe get a bigger role with SJ. I also like the idea of the "stalled projects" swap, sometimes just that change in scenery and new perspective can spark a positive change, similar to Nichushkin's situation a few years ago, so I hope for similar outcomes for both Kaut and Merkley. Like you said a great "hockey trade"! Go Avs GO!

  24. love these videos about trades! Cant wait to see more as we approach the deadline!

  25. Funny thing is I was thinking Nieto might be in my Top Favorite 3 Sharks players with Logan 1st hehe. I'm like Burns is gone along with Pavelski so who is even left. Bonino maybe or Hertl or Meier or somebody else. Good trade for Colorado as they fleeced San Jose who will likely get Bedard for having Greer as GM hehe. I know one of them could have been claimed on waivers already this year. Sharks I think are at roster limit people are saying. I didn't bother to check. They should improve the PK as supposedly that is why he was got. Guy can score ten to twenty goals as well. Not sure why anybody would choose to play for Sharks unless something changes hehe. Most those guys will probably wash out but Colorado did better here ;).

  26. Nieto gets to try for a run with the Avs and we get to try something new in our lineup as well. Shakeup isn't a bad idea about now.

  27. I like it for the Avs, getting Nieto back. He's a hard working depth player, can always count on him.

  28. I'm SO happy to get Nieto back. I always felt a twinge of sadness playing against SJ after he left. He is one of my favorites even though he's not a "star".

  29. Actually a solid trade for both teams, COL gets a familiar bottom 6 forward and a potentially promising prospect defenseman needing leadership to keep him in check, and SJ receives a forward prospect needing a change in scenery and a solid young defenseman
