Even against Chicago he came close to a couple of gigantic giveaways. … If the Oilers continue to play Bouchard instead of Desharnais – or even play him with a new defenseman obtained via trade – then the Oilers can expect some poorly timed (and very costly) giveaways once playoff style hockey hits them.
I don’t think you bump Vinny. I would rather have Bouch sent down than Vinny. He’s had plenty of time to move up the depth chart. He has definitely regressed this year.
Compliment Desharnais with another like him. Don't get rid of him. Are you kidding. This guy wants to be here. He has been great since signing him and he is cost effective. Maybe the oil are doing too well and they have to find a way to F it up.
Nor sure about Bjugstad but I would rather we acquire Lafferty. FULL PASSS on the Ghost.. We already have two pp guys in Barrie and Bouchard…..I would do a Bouchard for Soucy trade.
Bjugstad would be a great get, Ghostisbehere is a solid twoway Dman has really improved his game playing first pairing minutes with Yotes, when Oilers crushed yotes 8-2 Ghost played over 22min and was still a +1 on goal differential i'd like him for our 2nd line, we can trade Puljujarvi and kulak to free up the capspace
Vinny should stay up period. A big defensive d man . Good fit and has a great attitude. Leave ghost where he is. Bjugstad would be a nice addition . Bouchard needs bench time to pop his bubble a little. Too causal too many times. Hopefully the Horvat trade will get the ball rolling .
The way I see it, Bjugstad would be a huge improvement over Derek Ryan, there’s no reason to keep him around, unless you want him as your 13th forward. I’m passing on Ghost, he’s not the type of Dman we actually need.
If they let Vinny go in any given scenario it'll be one of the biggest mistakes in Oiler history (and I can list several of those historic mistakes). Give Vinny 1 or 2 more years of NHL development, he'll be another Chara or Pronger. The impact he's had in the line up from day 1 is unheard of. This is an extremely rare and special player. Vinny has been a MAJOR factor in securing the Oiler's win streak and beyond since he stepped into the line up. If Holland and Oiler management can't see that there's no medication in the world that can cure that kind of blindness and stupidity.
IMO only Bjugstad makes sense. Gost could be a good trade but could only fit under the cap if we trade Barrie for him, but why would we trade a Dman having a good season for an injured Dman that does the exact same job? Soucy would be great, but Seattle is AHEAD of the Oil in the standings and is looking to add for the playoffs, not subtract. This sounds like some fan's wishlist rather than a probable trade.
I would prefer a player with some bite, Stauffer keeps bring up Lafferty and I personally would like him better, not a Bjugstad fan. Need to move JP so lets get it done for his sake. Not a big fan of the Ghost don't think he's that good on the defensive side of the puck but could be wrong on that, but Soucy would be a great add. Big George said Edmundson has back issues so I wouldn't go there. Luke Schenn I would look at. Think the Oilers need a big strong, tough, shot blocking dman.
Bouchard isn’t the issue. He’s definitely a contributor. Nurse was generating critical defensive errors there for about 10 games in a row. He seems to be back to the normal amount of goof ups now. Also he seems to be improving, which I’m happy to see. Maybe he’ll get back into form? Time will tell. Bouch generates lots of offensive upside and initially I worried about him being out there with Broberg, but with Broberg getting better defensively I see the wisdom of that pairing long term. They may really improve by the end of the season. Next year they’ll be dynamite I think. Nothing we can do about this year. We can trade assets, but ultimately we are splitting our own throats if we do.
Lastly I think Desh and Barrie will make a great 3rd pair next year. Our defence in my mind will be really solid next year with the players we have.
