Philadelphia Flyers vs Buffalo Sabres Line Brawl 1996 – Barnaby vs Snow (High Quality)

Per request, here’s the famous line brawl back in 1996 between the Flyers and Sabres in the best quality I could get a hold of.

Barnaby’s most infamous clash with the Orange and Black came back in his days playing with the Buffalo Sabres. Barnaby was being his usual irritant self, trying to block Flyers goalie Garth Snow from the net, when Flyers enforcer Shawn Antoski came over to push him out of the way, delivering him a fairly brutal cross-check to the neck before getting decked himself. A brawl ensued, with Barnaby laying on the ice, supposedly knocked out of commission by the the cross-check. But then while being attended to by the Sabres medic, Barnaby sprang to life and jumped Snow, delivering several body blows before Flyers winger Rod Brind’Amour jumped on him, who was in turn pummeled by Sabres goalie Andre Trefilov.

The scrum continued on for several minutes, and before all was said and done, three players from each side were boxed, with a combined 13 penalties being assessed, and with Barnaby, Antoski, Brind’Amour and the Sabres’ Brad May all getting tossed.

  1. 1.) Rick Jeanneret could have just as easily been a boxing announcer
2.) I remember seeing this on live TV when I was 10 years old, and I can't believe the NHL used to be this fun to watch

  2. What a tough team Buffalo had back then. Ray, May, Bougner, and Barnaby would take on anyone.

  3. Flyers are like the Muslim extremists. They always need each other to help 'fight' someone.

  4. One of Rick Jeanneret's finest calls, thank you Rick for 51 great years as the voice of the Sabres

  5. This is a great fight but the fact that you can hear barnaby’s punches makes it 100 times better

  6. Brind amour lol humped Barbaby the entire fight. If you dont want to fight Rod get lost

  7. Looking back on it, the future will see an NHL GM (Snow), 2 head coaches (Boughner and Brind'Amour) and an assistant coach (Derek Plante) on the ice in that melee.
