  1. WTF AM I ABOUT TO WATCH!? BRUTAL AF!!! I’VE NEVER BEEN MORE JACKED FOR AN ESPN FILM…DRAPER LOOKS LIKE HE’S WEARING A FUCKING MASK INSTEAD OF A FACE! LEGENDARY RIVALRY

  2. I had forgotten about this rivalry until this came out. Grew up in Michigan but have lived here in Wisconsin for many years. Even though it’s been a dry spell for the cup for awhile, still love those 97-98 Championship teams. From across the lake, Go Wings!! By the way, why did they take title away as Hockeytown? For me, it’s still it

  3. I was always surprised how little the Kozlov shot on Foote was talked about over the years when the rivalry was brought up

  4. And on the day espn premieres the documentary about the 90s rivalry between the Colorado avalanche and the Detroit red wings, the avalanche beat the team Steve yzerman built for the Stanley cup.

    Woooof.

  5. Having been born and raised a Wings fan, and in fact my first ever game I went to was against the Aves, this is awesome. Super pumped.

  6. Irony. The fact the Red Wings started this rivalry and didn't even know it by lighting up Roy in Montreal. The Irony that in Game 7 of the WCF's they lit him up again to essentially end the greatest 7 year sports rivalry, perfectly fitting. I will say they should've added another 30 minutes or so to show that 2002 year, because we had some great fights in that one as well. Almost had our third goalie fight. I don't think I've ever seen anything better in sports.

  7. I was in college when this rivalry exploded. And it was in intense every time they met. Growing up in Colorado I didn’t watch much hockey until I was in high school. And then the AVS showed up my freshman year of college. I went to a small school in Wisconsin that had a bunch of Wings fans. The Draper hit ironically wasn’t that uncommon. But Detroit turned it into a rallying cry. And every time they met after that you almost expected both benches to clear.

  8. Note to ESPN….KEEP MAKING THESE TYPES OF DOCS……stop with the fucking politics no one cares about. Get back to these types of stories.

  9. Shanny, Vladdy, McCarty. These are guys you’d walk through fire if they tell you to. Guys you want on your side in a battle.

  10. Anyone who's a hockey fan from back then, pro, college, juniors, knows how memorable rivalry games are.

  11. As a wings fan, I don’t see how the avs can even hate the wings. They should be thanking them. The wings literally GAVE them Patrick Roy by chasing him from Montreal (and if you know ur avs history, they use to play in Quebec, a team that hated Montreal. So the wings stole arguably the best goalie from the franchise’s old rivals) Everyone knows the Avs wouldn’t have been NEAR as good with Roy. Sure they had Sakic, Forsberg, and Foote, but the high powered Wings offense would’ve scored circles around those avs if Roy wasn’t there. There would’ve been no rivalry at all, which ALSO means we wouldn’t have gotten this great exciting hockey! I get it’s a rivalry so ur supposed to hate a certain team and I am in no way saying the avs should LOVE the wings but you at least gotta give credit where credit is due. But all in all, it was a great thing to witness and I’m sad it’s over. Congrats to the avs for winning the cup, congrats to GM Super Joe, congrats to Landeskog, McKinnon, Makar and Helm and the rest of the team, congrats to the ENTIRE city of Denver, and Go Wings go.

  12. The doc wasn’t nearly long enough to cover everything, overall I’d give ESPN a shameful/10 rating. How dare you give the greatest hockey ever played such short thrift.

  13. It's sad, because pussies like EPSN ruined hockey. Who names A BIOLOGICAL MAN "female athlete of the year"? Pussies. Flabby, sterile, pussies.

  14. why even spend the money to make this is its impssible to find..

  15. This makes the Wings and their fans look like absolute losers. And told from their perspective. Yikes!

  16. The absolute best thing about this rivalry is that both sides won. Wings fans think they won and Avs fans think they won when in reality, it was us the fans who were the biggest winners! What a rivalry!

  17. Not to be a salty fan boy but the wings won this rivalry. Avs fans say they won because they had more playoff series wins (which they don't even have THAT anymore lol) but what would u rather have?
More series wins, or more cups? (hockeys most cherished prize) I think any REAL hockey fan knows the answer here….cups. And the wings won 3-2 in cups as well as getting the final laugh in this rivalry. Also speaking of cups, the wings actually REPEATED as cup champs which is what the avs could never do because every time they tried, they'd lose in WCF to said redwings. And let's be honest, the only reason the avs were ever able to compete with the redwings' high powered offense was because they had Roy. And they NEVER woulda had Roy if the wings didn't slaughter him in Montreal in 95. So the avs should be thanking the wings for building the avs team, as if being handed an already built franchise wasn't enough lol(Quebec Nords).
So yeah, enjoy your cup this year Colorado, but the wings won this rivalry. Not to mention the head to head record is 59-52 in favor of the Wings. This includes regular season and playoff games.
