Should the Buffalo Sabres Re-sign Captain KYLE OKPOSO?? (Re: Tage Thompson, Rasmus Dahlin)

With the Sabers finally on the verge of making their first playoff appearance in 12 years, it’s time to possibly talk trades about who we may see going and coming to Buffalo. One guy who’s going to be really interesting is Kyle Okposo, as his contract expires at the end of this season. Does Buffalo add him for their future or say goodbye to their captain? 1. If he's willing to be affordable, otherwise we have other talents that are doing very well and can fill the gap.

  2. Don't underestimate the Sabres ability to get even younger next year the fourth line could be Josh Bloom, Juri Kulich, Olivier Nadeau

  3. Seems like a great dude and he has his moments where he looks good but it's obvious he is slowing down so I'd be skeptical to keep him unless it's at a discount price.

  4. Okposo will never be what he was in long island. You are leaving out the fact that due to concussions. He was hospitalized with not only his career, but his life were in question.

  5. Please don’t sign him or Girgensons, so sick of seeing them on the team for the last 7-10 years, I’m sure Okposo will be back at least as assistant GM since he’s a major kiss as-s, he might even run for mayor of Buffalo. He is cra-p

  6. You should definitely start watching the Sabres games. No one expects, or even necessarily wants, him to be the top line forward he was in NY. He sets the tone (literally…they start just about every game with him on the ice) for the team from the 4th line. The line of him, Girgenzens, and Yost (sometimes Krebs) grind there a$ses off and routinely have the shift of the night for a team that leads the league in goals. The role they play is invaluable. They don’t only set the tone, they are regularly put on the ice following a goal against or after a lackluster few minutes from the top lines and they almost always do something that gets the momentum back in the Sabres direction. There isn’t a better role he could be playing on this team and it’s the one all Sabres fans want him in for as long as humanly possible.

  7. I think youll see him signed for 1 more year with buffalo ,he earned it,honestly hes a great guy but hes slow now

  8. So your whole video is basically suggesting how the Sabres should deal him to a young team trying to make a playoff push and is need of some veteran leadership where he could provide some bottom 6 scoring…all while the Sabres are currently the YOUNGEST team, making a playoff push, where he is THE LEADER, and providing bottom 6 scoring. Make it make sense. Okposo isn't being asked to score like he was in the past. He's playing 3rd/4th line defensive minutes vs opponents top lines while being on the top PK line. Okposo's value is not with scoring goals any longer. He's the key cog in the locker room, teaching these young guys how to work and how to be pros. And he loves the role he's in. The guy is invaluable, especially when cap space isn't an issue at the moment. They'll give him 1 yr extensions at around 3mil as long as he can play at the current level.

  9. I would like to see him back for a reduced price. Somewhere in the range of 2-3 mil for for 2-3 years. I don't see Buffalo trading him this year. He's been far too valuable in the bottom 6 and as a leader.

  10. No this dude has been awful forever this year is his only solid year. Get him out of here after this year.

  11. All these people keep assuming Buffalo are going to be buyers at the trade deadline. It is highly unlikely based off of Kevin Adams plan.

  12. If he wants to stay, I'd re-sign him to a one year, but he'd need to understand that he may be a healthy scratch on a lot of nights. I'ts a touchy situation because he's the captain, good in the locker room and hopefully the Sabres want him in the front office some day.

  13. I think we keep him past the deadline. Whether or not we re-sign him may be dependent on a few things. Do we find a better, more long-term option for his role? If not, what is he willing to do and what type of contract is he willing to take? What would we offer him?

  14. Time to move on. Great guy, but at 35, he’s slow and no longer able to get up with the play. Tuch can take his place as captain and younger guys can fill in.

  15. 1 year only. Personally I don’t think he is worth anything beyond 1.25 but I bet the team may go as high as 2.4 because they seem to overvalue role players like him and Girgs. The only time you should be paying role players on 4th lines good $ is when they are winning you cups or great at PK. They don’t do either.

  16. Maybe a year or two depending on how the prospects are doing, but I'm thinking no. We make him part of the coaching staff because I'd love to have to him stick around the organization.

  17. Na let him finish off his contract and captainize tuch. Too much talent coming up next season to hold onto okoposo and girgs who are aging

  18. He will probably get a 2 for 2 deal. But then thats 4 mill of avail cap space which is good for players after he retires. Okie is a good leader and he loves buffalo and he instills that in all of his teammates that is vital to do and to have before you pass the torch.

  19. I have no problem with him coming back next year… but not at his current salary. He'll have to take a cut. And I don't think he'll get anything better elsewhere. He's not lighting the lamp up here.
