  1. I was beyond happy when he slide to the Wild at 20. Trading with Edmonton to jump Boston was a great move by Guerin. Edmonton who needs goalies makes it even more of a head scratcher. Sometimes a GM can outsmart himself, this maybe one of those scenarios. 6-0 last 6, 1.93 GAA and no game has he given more then 2 goals. These are two of the best GM’s in hockey so most likely, both goalies will flourish,
however, I would rather have the Swede right now.

  2. I'm in no position to doubt what Yzerman sees and does. He knows more than me and by a lot. But I'd been eyeing Wallstedt for probably a season and a half(maybe more) and when we traded up, that's who I thought we would take.

  3. I think we all thought that. We know the Wings love their Swedes, I don't know what happened. Seems like a major fail to me. Even if Cossa pans out, Wallstedt is way ahead of him.

  4. Shout out to Dustin Wolf who went 33-9-4 with a .924 save% as a 20 year old last year (winning goalie of the year). 26-6-1 with 928 save% this season as well. Insane AHL career so far for such a young goalie.

  5. It’s looking like the rebuild still going cossa taking his time and Larkin might leave

  6. It’s crazy to think when he got Ned and vrana they looked like great deals now ehh Now he might lose larkin for free Bert still gotta get a contract are pick us mid are D still sucks but I still trust Y even tho it’s looking verry bad rn

  7. Maybe Yzerman saw something he didn't like about Wallstedt. Yzerman seems to judge players on character. I'm not disappointed yet. Cossa still might work out. Yzerman seems to be going with size. Edmonton screwed the pooch.

  8. Yzerman and the scouts were probably thinking Cossa had a higher ceiling at the time and that with Husso and Nedeljkovic combo would give Cossa time to develop. It still could turn out for the us, but it does not look good at the moment.

  9. It's way to early to say if it was or wasn't the right move for Stevie Y? Time will tell

  10. As much as I want the whole team to be the Swedish mafia, I’m okay with giving cossa more time. But I cannot lie that wallstedt not getting picked hurts me. For now…

  11. From the begging I said this is going to likely be an L for Yzerman and so far i’m right. Wallstedt is way better than Cossa as it stands. Even if he pans out i’m not confident it will be enough to justify the pick

  12. Oilers had like 6 goalies in the system its not an excuse to not draft a solid player but as you can see oilers are a mess atleast they are still better then the nucks in my opinion

  13. I couldn't care less which goalie makes it to the NHL first. If next year Wallstedt is single-handedly carrying the Wild while Cossa is still in the minors, then I would say congratulations and best of luck to the Wild.

The only thing that matters to me is which one will be the better in the long run, when both have reached their peak. If (and only if) Wallstedt is clearly the better goalie at that time, then I will say that Yzerman messed up this draft pick. But today's stats will be long forgotten by then.

  14. there may be a subtle nuance to goalies peaking early that isn't being addressed. we trusted Stevie for decades. he built a dynasty in Tampa. i will trust him till the wheels fall off.
just remember, judging kids, to become proper adults, is always a gamble.

  15. This is the guy I wanted the Kings to jump up and grab but we just didn’t have the draft capital after trading for Arvy.

  16. We clearly took the riskier player. Wallstedt is going to be a starter, possibly franchise goalie. Cossa’s development is currently fringe NHL goalie with a very high ceiling. In 2-3 years we still regret this pick, in 5 or 6 years we might not…

  17. I wanted us to draft Wallstedt so badly, but I’m fine with Cossa. Still need like 3-4 years before we assess this draft anyway.

  18. Way too early is right. The point that Wallstedt was already projected as a generational goalie does change the risk reward though.
