GAME RECAP: Penguins vs. Avalanche (02.07.23) | DeSmith Earns .976 SV% On the Night

For the first game back after the All-Star break, the Pittsburgh Penguins hosted the Colorado Avalanche on Tuesday night. The 1st period was a quiet one with no goals or penalties taken by either team. Half way through the 2nd, the Penguins would get the first power play opportunity of the game. That chance quickly turned into a 4-on-4. The Avalanche took full advantage and gained the lead off a shot by Nathan MacKinnon. Later in the period, the Penguins received another penalty but killed it off and that would finish the period. The 3rd would start with a lot of back and forth play until the Penguins got their third penalty of the game. Once again, they successfully kill it off. With three minutes left in regulation, Bryan Rust helped direct a bouncing puck towards the net. After a few more quick bounces of Avalanche players, the puck crossed the goal line tying the game 1-1 and forced overtime. An early rush seemed promisingly close to crossing the goal line for the Penguins but it was determined no goal after video review. For the fourth time, the Penguins went on the penalty kill for the night and one last time killed off the penalty. Once back to even strength, the Penguins went on the attack. Kris Letang would be tonights hero hammering home the game winning goal in overtime and claiming those two point.

  1. Penguins had no business winning this game let alone getting a point to take it into overtime! penguins defense is really atrocious

  2. Man, if the Pens don't start playing some solid defense we can forget about a playoff run. Thank goodness for great goaltending.

  3. The last 7 mins of the game was pretty instense. Another Overtime goal from kris letang! What a win! Let’s go Pens!!

  4. Jeffy wasn’t watching the puck on MacKinnon’s goal. What is he doing??
Sully putting him first line in overtime: see he can win face offs he needs to be in the lineup!
    Regardless, great game!!

  5. Penalty kill was great tonight and DeSmith was on his game! Defense still needs work but the Pens didn't quit! If this team can play with even half of the intensity Zucker brings each game….they might just find a playoff spot. Keep fighting boys!! GO PENS GO!!

  6. One of the best games I've seen in a long time man Colorado is one great team Casey was rocking tonight without him we don't get this win

  7. Solid character win from the boys vs a really good team. Something to build off down the stretch. Let’s go pens.

  8. Man I wish I could see a game in Pittsburgh sometime! A big dream of mine, good job on the win boys! love from Sweden 🙂
