Ready to get some whiplash from contradictory view points.
From Friedman 32 thoughts written version.
4. Dylan Larkin had a good line about what fellow All-Stars were saying to him in Florida: “Guys are asking why it hasn’t got done yet, stuff like that.” That tells you what you need to know, that his peers believe Larkin when he says he wants to be a Red Wing.
5. We’ll see if Bo Horvat’s eight-year, $68M extension moves the line for Larkin and Steve Yzerman. Generally, Yzerman digs a trench and doesn’t go much further, although Nikita Kucherov pushed Tampa Bay’s ceiling to $9.5M two months before Yzerman resigned from the team. I don’t believe that’s where we’re going here, but what it shows is that sometimes, things can move.
Larkin’s best attribute is that, as a centre, he’s difficult to replace. Top-line centres are very hard to find. My guess is this ends somewhere in the eights. If Yzerman believed he couldn’t sign Larkin, he would have traded him last summer before the captain’s no-trade clause kicked-in.
I can now see why Chicago finally got frustrated with Kubalik and decided to let him walk.
So, keep Bert. He’s a heart and soul player.
Trade Larkin to the Canes for Jarvis, Drury and a first. Larkin would be elite on that team as opposed to be very-good on our team. But my view of Larkin is he is a great supportive player and a decent main player. Ask Larkin to bring the Cup back to Detroit when it is his turn with it.
Lend Vrana to a team in the SHL to get his mind and body straight. When he is ready, tell him he is a first line sniper with Bedard.
Wife and I are just now getting over a stomach bug that had it coming out both ends so frequently that the girls had to stay at her parents house. Cut to this morning and one of them sits up in our bed and covers us in projectile vomit, it’s gonna be a long week.
Lots of bizarre takes last night in the game thread – I can only come to the conclusion that a lot of people don’t watch this team (or hockey in general) very often if you are leaving that game saying we “played well”.
This idea that we are just unlucky or screwed up a few times being the reason we lost is just not true. This team did not look like they just came off a 10 day break. They looked sloppy, tired, and just overall unorganized. The powerplay continues to be one of the biggest crutches of this team and change needs to happen there.
Maybe I am alone on this but I’m excited for the deadline to see who gets moved.

Man do I ever wish Matt Barzal was on this team. Watching him play with Horvat last night was awesome. A highly skilled line mate gave him so much extra space out there.
Good article by Max. With some Walman-like trade targets for this year.

Patience is tough. I give Wings fans a lot of credit. Up and down games, some wins and some losses test all of our patience. There is so much talent in the pipeline but the timeline is questionable when and how good they will be.
I go to the trust factor. Stevie has done it as a player and as a GM. Join me in trusting him. Enjoy every game for what they are. Enjoy watching Ras develop. Enjoy seeing Seider become an elite player. Enjoy the moments and be gentle with each other on these threads. We are brothers and sisters.
Dear ESPN can we not do that name plate crap during the power play? It’s way too distracting and at certain angles it covers up both the puck and the goalie when the player took a shot on net. Please, just don’t.
Last night was incredibly frustrating to watch but I take solace in the fact that Seider is looking amazing again. We can complain about the rebuild not being where we want it to be but at least we have a 1D set for a solid decade
It’s crazy that people keep reverting back to “we don’t have talent or we don’t have a superstar”. This is not the same team as the 2019 team that was basically an AHL team. Yzerman isn’t going out and trading Larkin for Marner. Just because they are having a bad second half doesn’t mean “they don’t have talent”. Look at the amount of “talent” Tampa has had over the past decade and they got swept by Columbus a few years ago in the first round of the playoffs. Teams go through ups and downs.
With all these trade debates and fights throughout our community I offer a simple solution. Sign Larkin, sign Bertuzzi, and then sign someone else to keep building the team. I know it’s a crazy take, but it’s my crazy take.
I’m less concerned about our special teams than i am the fact that the puck just slides off of our stick blades. No effort. No jump. A good pass turns into a turnover because when we receive it , it evades possession for no reason.
I was solidly in the trade Bert camp when this season started. It largely boiled down to who would be our wingers in the top six. I imagined some combo of Raymond, Vrana, Perron, Bert. It seemed like Rass’s eventual destiny was wing. So I figured we start the season with Rass on the third line. Flip Bert for what should have been a good haul, and move him to second line wing if all goes well.
Now we have the Vrana situation being whatever it is (I’m not optimistic). Bert’s trade value probably plummeted due to the injuries. I still think Rass should be a top six winger (at least for now) and I like him on a line with Perron. But now I think we might actually need to retain Bert. If we don’t, we’re going to have to go out and pay someone else to replace him because I’m not optimistic Vrana will be there.
Anyway, just my thoughts about this whole situation as we approach the deadline. Take it or leave it!
The Wings sit at 11th-worst points percentage, the best you can play while still having a possibility at drafting first overall.
Here’s the set of teams around us:
6 Montreal
7 Vancouver
8 St Louis
9 Philadelphia
10 Ottawa
11 Detroit
12 Florida
13 New York Islanders
14 Nashville
15 Buffalo
16 Calgary
Luckily, I don’t see us out-playing any team below us down the stretch. That would mean we should finish 11th or worse and have a ball in the hopper.
How many teams do you think we could realistically pass for better odds, with the way the team is performing and the assumption we will be selling roster players at the deadline?
I will name my first born son/daughter Connor if we win the draft lottery.
Anybody got a good place I can take my lady friend to for valentines day dinner?
