I still can’t believe how good our first rounds have been for the past couple drafts despite only having mid-late round picks.

Sucks that any time I read a headline like this all I can think is, “Could we possibly be contenders if we didn’t have the cap hit?”

I know wheeler adores Rossi but still surprised the depth of the MN system was ranked ahead of the blue chippers of NJs system.
edit: reading through both I kind of get why he did it now. Not sure I entirely agree, a lot of it probably hinges on Wallstedt and how much better you think Hughes and Nemec are compared to Faber and Lambos. But with it being hard to get a lot of info on Ohgren and Yurov due to the leagues they play in (or don’t play much in with Yurov and his 7 second TOI last week) if he’s that high on those two that’s a big driver in why he had the Wild ahead.

What is more impressive is that they built the prospect pool across the board. Top-6 FWDs, RD & LD, along with a #1 Goalie. Feel like that moves them up the board more than anything else, there just isn’t a perceived weakness.

When looking at other organizations, the Wild management have done a great with all of the challenges Fletcher put us in with the salary cap. BG, does not sit on the sidelines like a majority of NHL GM’s. I love how if he can a good deal for the organization, he will do it.

Seems that this has been an ongoing theme for years now…the Wild having one of the best prospect pools in the NHL. Waiting to see the benefit. I realize it takes time, but many 1st round picks will make a contribution in their 1st or 2nd year. I wonder when we will begin seeing these prospects make it up to the big club.

I love reading this. I love watching young players break into the NHL. I think what’s going to have to happen is we are going to need to package some of these prospects and future picks to get a #1 C. Kirill needs the help and if we want to sign him again after this contract he is going to want help.

Can someone fill me in on our prospects rather than obvious ones? (Wall, Rossi, beck, walker)?
