  1. Simmonds alone wouldn’t be enough to make a trade work, the Leafs would have to include a draft pick. Kolesar would be a nice fit on the fourth line if they can make it happen

Not a fan of this proposed move myself. I don’t think another 4th line winger is going to make a difference on the roster. We should look to move for an impact player as opposed to a player that impacts other players

Simmonds has nothing left and really shouldn’t be on the roster

Now that I think about it, how come Toronto hasn’t ever been in Vegas’s DM’s at the deadline? It’s not really a secret they’re willing to give away big names for next to nothing, I’m surprised more teams aren’t trying to trade with them, especially since Vegas fashion, they have their name on big fish at the deadline again meaning they’re going to have to move someone

LOVE Kolesar and never thought of the idea of him coming to Toronto.

Pretty interesting article and a nice break from all the “Jacob Chychurn has followed Auston Mathews and the boys on instagram” spam.

I honestly haven’t seen a player so out of place in the NHL. Like on that shift when the 4th line got stuck on the ice against Boston, first he shouldn’t have even been on the ice once it entered our zone.

He went to pressure their d-man in their zone, and hesitated long enough to change that in the end he missed the opportunity. Then when they got it into our zone, he demonstrated literally the worst point pressure I’ve ever seen.

He was way too far away from the puck carrier and wasn’t even properly blocking the shooting lane. Like he literally almost fell over trying to make a block when the dman feinted the shot, opening the passing lane wide open which ultimately led to the goal.

I haven’t seen such a bad skater since Luca Caputi. Like the way he forechecks is like low level rocket league players who just ball chase their car straight into the end boards. Then he’s so out of position and doesn’t have any speed at all to get back. Just bury the guy already. Pretty impressive punch against Greer, but this isn’t 2003 anymore. It’s 2023.

My suggestion, now hear me out, we get Curtis Douglas back, hear me out, tie ‘em up to a chair in the basement of the old Maple Leaf Gardens feeding him nothing but meth and rock em sock em closed circuit television. Then bring him out to the rink via stretcher ala Hannibal and fuck…shit…up.

Clearly Keefe sees a benefit to putting Simmonds in the lineup depending on the matchup. If we can get a younger player who fills the same role and has fewer liabilities, then I am in full support. For the right price of course.

Don’t think Vegas would be giving him up though. They aren’t selling as far as I know.

I don’t disagree, but he has 20/30 point potential over a full season. An also fights. Meaning you will almost certainly have to overpay to get him at the deadline.

I’d like him for like a 4th round and an AHLer. If the cost is more I’d be less inclined.

I think a ham sandwich could replace 2023 Wayne Simmonds on the ice. Don’t really care about replacing the occasional fight. If I want to bring in a better fit for what Simmonds brings at this point, I want a highly respected veteran who’s still able to play a regular shift. I think Simmonds, Spezza, Thornton, Marleau, Giordano, even Roman Polak in his way, are valuable guys to have around. But a big part of leadership happens on the ice.

Yeah, he’d be a great replacement for Wayne Simmonds. The issue is he’s only a replacement for the current dessicated corpse of Wayne Simmonds we still dress almost as a favour to the players in the locker room who like him. No disrespect to the guy but he’s the exact opposite type of player we should be considering.
