The San Jose Sharks Have A Kevin Labanc Problem

The San Jose Sharks have a Kevin Labanc problem. He is too talented to be a healthy scratch but makes too much to be traded for anything of value. Look at Labanc’s time in San Jose and the discrepancy between the eye test and the analytics with Labanc’s game. Then try to determine the genesis of where the relationship between Labanc and coach David Quinn started and if it could be the end of Labanc’s time in San Jose. Finally, some potential solutions and if buying out Labanc this summer makes the most sense for the Sharks.

  1. look at his share of possible PPTOI, JD. Barabanov's been getting all of the prime minutes, and that was when Quinn was actually playing him.

  2. when Quinn initially made those comments, KL had points in 4/5 games played. Quinn's a liar and dinosaur. KL was right to be confused and indignant about those comments from the HC. Quinn knew he was in the wrong, got pissed off, and has been taking it out on him since.

  3. Considering the thought is the Sharks will be bad next year, I can't comprehend why they'd buy him out. They get cap savings next year in a year they're not trying to compete. How does that help them? On the other hand, in 2 years if things go really well for the Sharks maybe they're starting to try to compete (though it's unlikely) and now they have extra money they have to spend. Get his cap hit off the books sooner by just letting his contract play out (or dumping him if it doesn't cost assets).
