The Pittsburgh Penguins, somehow, someway found a way to win that hockey game on Tuesday night. Hunter starts the show by going over the main reasons as to why they won and it all starts with Casey DeSmith. He turned in his finest performance of the season and was able to make some massive saves in key situations to keep them in it until Bryan Rust struck with less than four minutes remaining. He also credits the penalty kill as that unit killed off four straight penalties, including the one in overtime when it looked impossible. He also loved the effort they gave in the third period and wonders where that was in the first two periods of this game. After that, he shouts out Ryan Poehling for a very underrated play that he made directly after killing the penalty, which led to the OT winner. Hunter also loved that Mike Sullivan decided to flip Rakell and Rust and looks at how both players complement each line that they’re on fairly well. Of course, he does have to add that the third line was once again non-existent and that continues to be a problem as the trade deadline gets closer. Hunter even speculates that Sullivan could be icing Carter in bad situations on purpose to get Ron Hextall to wake up a little bit. Finally, Hunter ends the show by arguing how this was a season-saving win as the standings continue to get tighter.

Can't say I wasn't concerned at a number of points in that game, but the boys kept battling. Need more wins like that this season!
Love the way Poehling drives into the zone. He just looks hungry. That goal all happened with the drive and the movement. Hope the boys all saw for themselves how to provide that spark
It surprises me that Crosby says he prefers playing with Rust, because, when Sid's on the ice with Rakell, it seems as if they are sharing one mind, having the same thoughts. They just click that well.
Part of Sully's choice of ice time may be "showcasing" the players for future trades.
I'd love to see Sully give Poehling the 3rd line center spot, just to see if he can take it and run with it.
That seems like a very important win for so many reasons. Could be a season changer.
did any one notice how at the end of all 3 periods there was a stoppage at 5:55? just though that was odd.
Good gutsy effort last night. Completely agree about the third line, any chance of making a run in the playoffs, if they get in, depend on that third line. I know last week when you had Josh Yohe on, you mentioned about Ivan Barbashev from the Blues. I keep seeing articles about Barbashev being a possibly good fit for The Penguins. I also read one yesterday about Brock Boeser also, the only issue is his cap hit which is over 6 million and I think Barbashev's is only over 2 million. So Barbashev's is definitely more friendly than Boeser's, but we shall see.
I'm all about Chronicling this game
One thing I learned last night is that Jeff Carter is a headhunter. It's amazing to me that he wasn't penalized when it was obviously intentional and right in front a a referee. I can add Carter to my hate list of dirty players.
