Kris Baker on Devon Levi: “He's special” | Sabres Live Overtime

Kris Baker joined Brian Duff and Marty Biron to talk Devon Levi’s performance in the Beanpot tournament, what makes him such a special prospect and when the guys think he might eventually be NHL ready.  Which prospects in Rochester are impressing the most? What is the latest on Matt Savoie?  What is Kris seeing from Olivier Nadeau? The guys also compared Sabres goalie prospects including Topias Leinonen. Also discussed the progress of Noah Östlund. Finally talked about the future of Ryan Johnson, looked ahead to the NHL trade deadline and at potential college free agents.

  1. How many NHL goalies are computer science majors ? Levi is not only a special goalie but he is ahead of his time. I read he intends to develop software specifically for goalie VR.

  2. Buffalo has great goalie prospects (Levi, Portello, Leinonen) and forwards (Rosen, Kulich, Savoie, Ostland), but fewer defense prospects. If they don't make a deal before the trade deadline, I would think a defenseman would be their top priority in the 2023 Draft. And if Ryan Johnson doesn't want to sign with the Sabres, then trade him. Kevyn Adams has had a great track record at acquiring players who want to play in Buffalo, so if Johnson doesn't, get rid of him!
