Erik Karlsson Edmonton Oilers Trade

  1. It's definitely confirmed he's leaving the sharks. They stripped his "A" off tonight

  2. Wpg!!!! A trade for Demelo and a 1st and a 2nd. Sharks retain half salary. Leaves room for Jets to trade for a solid winger…..

  3. I can’t imagine trading him in the Conference, let alone our own Division, but I digress I’m no manager that’s why I’m sitting on my couch

  4. How the hell does Karlsson's contract fit? No chance in hell he is going to Edmonton, keep dreaming.

  5. Man, the biggest issue with Edmonton taking on Karlsson is how to fit his salary. He's still going to have a caphit of 11.5 mil for 4 more seasons after this one. Right now the Oilers have 9 mil in cap space to work with. So after this year, its possible to work with that. I feel like this would have to mean Puljujarvi is out, who is up for contract this year, but that's probably ok as he doesn't seem particularly vital to the team. But it could make any other deals significantly tighter to deal with. And while you could easily get rid of Puljujarvi, Edmonton's back-up goalie is already signed for an extra 2 mil next season, kind of undoing that. So they'd still need to find cap space elsewhere.

Further, I'd be concerned about a 32 year old defenseman suddenly becoming way better than he was the previous 5 seasons. I love Karlsson and hope this continues for him, but man, I don't know if I'd be willing to take that gamble.

Further, I feel like defensemen being moved at the deadline are MUCH harder to fit with a new team. I've never done an in depth study and this might just be some classic observer effect, but I swear any time a big d-man is moved at the deadline, it doesn't really work out nearly as often as when the big forward is on a new team. My hypothesis is that it takes time for a d-man to better understand the nuances of a system and d-partner compared to what a forward has to contend with. That these things are easier to learn with a full training camp, preseason, etc.

  6. I think you need to look up the word "officially" in the ol' thesaurus mate.

  7. "Officially"? ". . . is going to be going to…."? "This deal is going to work out perfectly."? I must have missed some news reports. 😉

  8. The Oilers don't have the cap space. Unless the Sharks retain 4M+ of his salary and there's no way that happens.

  9. I would be happy to see him go honestly…mostly cause he is a generational talent, and he should be doing what he does right now in a team with Stanley Cup ambition…Sharks are clearly tanking, rightfully so the trade would be a fair deal for everybody involved.
Hope injuries don't get him this time

  10. as a sens fan i would love to see karlsson join the oilers..
he deserves to go somewhere where he will thrive and be in the playoff hunt..
there's also a chance sens make the playoffs so could be an interesting post season

  11. IF this move brings the cup home then it’s worth it, but this move will end the Oilers roster and McDavids tenure with an unsustainable cap situation. Karlsson will never live up to his contract as the years go on.

I’d rather Chychrun or Schenn, steady hands Holland!

  12. Karlsson is having a great year, but look at the last 4. This guy is a defensive liability, which is the last thing the oilers need. They don't need MORE offense, they need better defense.

  13. Your title is a bit misleading. Maybe the deal will happen for the reasons you suggest and I hope it does but there's nothing 'official' yet.

  14. The fans know better, we do not need Karlsson. There is a better option out there. He certainly isn't worth more than Tarasenkos take.

  15. IF, lmfao lmfao, can have the best defense but it's still a Canadian team. Lmao lmao we know cups never go to Canadian teams. Lmfao lmfao lmfao I can't stop laughing at these things.
