  1. Appreciate the honest, thought provoking review Rick. I personally own a Scotty (paid $400) and have absolutely zero regrets about purchasing it. Not because I hole more putts with it, or because I think it's superior to all other putters…just simply because I really love the way it looks, feels, and I do enjoy having a premium product. To me it's an item I decided to splurge on and treat myself to a shiny pretty toy, not much more to it than that. However, one thing investing in a Scotty did do is make me feel obligated to practice my putting more. haha. So in a way, it did help me sink more putts!

  2. Got a special select newport 2 the other day. First time out on the course I shot a record low on 9 holes, 3 over. Made all my 5-7 foot puts. The feel is out of this world. Easily worth the $400.

  3. I went and tested almost ever putter in American golf and clubhouse golf. I wasn’t any better with an SC, Pings felt as good, holed as many with Odyssey but I still bought a special select 2. Why? I simply found it beautiful. It was nice to look at – they say you can’t put a price on beauty but obviously you can. £360

  4. The Kirkland one looks exactly like the Newport and to me performs just as good and it's half the price. I love it.

  5. Does the ball go in the hole? If yes, they’re a bargain. If no, they at least they make you feel like a good putter.

  6. I think the better question might be, “are all putters overpriced.” If putters could read greens and swing themselves, they might be worth $500. Otherwise, $100-$200 seems about right. I was just saying to my buddy today, that I’m going to glue a block of wood onto a broomstick and play a round of golf with it. I’d like to see you do that comparison. We might all be very surprised by the outcome.

  7. i agree with the rolex analogy. i dont need it, a casio will do. but a casio aint a rolex

  8. Yes they are overpriced status symbols. That's it. A pro could putt good with crappy mini golf putter 🤷🏽‍♂️. Especially used. Resellers have "special editions" going for well over 1k and as long as fools are buying them at these prices, they will remain expensive. Find what works for you, not what someone tells you is good because they seen it on TV.

  9. I know several people who have a SC putter. None of them can putt for shit. But they sure do think they look cool using one. Apparently, for many, that's all that matters.

  10. Does a Scotty give you anymore confidence when standing over the ball …..? Probably! Confidence when putting is 👍

  11. Personally I think they are ridiculously expensive. I could never justify paying that much for a putter, let alone my wife!!
    Cheers from Canada Bob McCabe

  12. For $400 it better put the ball in the hole for me! I guarantee that I could do as well with my cheap $40 putter as with that any of those.

  13. Hope you see this Rick or anyone with the knowledge, its an old vid so i doubt it, how does this 2018 newport compare to the 2020 newport, similar feel or does this face insert of the 2018 model make it feel that much better, i was considering buying a new 2020 scotty and i tested it in a store and it didnt feel as nice as i remembered the last one i played with which was a the 2003 model newport.

  14. OK, so this comment is about 4 years late, but he's got contenders behind him. Mizuno has a good putter, TM has a good putter. They are using some of the same materials he was innovative for using 10-20 years ago. So I forsee a day when it'll most likely be his name will be writing checks he'll have a harder time cashing.

I also believe it's personal choice. When people see that my two putters are a teryllium midslant and a circa62 no2, people would be amazed. Tiger's putter is from 99. So if you know what its gonna do, why change?

  15. I’m about to get fitted for a putter. Hopefully a scottie Cameron. It’s the only club I’ve been fitted for and I’m sure it’s the most important club to get fitted for

  16. I think putting tendencies by each person count more than the brand, especially for those expensive putters. If you putt on tour 7 days a week, I suspect that you might be able to tell the different a Scotty Camreron putter might bring to your game. Amateurs might to more good to get better with your short game and get closer to the pin and most any putter will do the task. At least that is what I have found.

  17. with all due respect to Mr Cameron most of these putters were designed by PING, and the "classic" design of the Newport is a direct copy of the Ping Anser as are many other brands, the classic belongs to PING and to Karsten Solheim who designed it. out of respect they should call it the Karsten Solheim Newport. There are so many copies of Solheim's designs the scotty Camerons included.

  18. A putter should cost more than a driver, you literally use this club the most in EVERY ROUND

  19. If you're asking if SC's are worth it money-wise, you're not the person who should be buying one.

I bought myself a SC Newport 2 as a graduation gift to myself and I will pass it on to my grandkids some day. Do I hole more putts with it? Probably not. But I love the look, the feel and the history behind it when I use it. It certainly makes me want to practice more putting, which is a bonus.
