[TSN Insider Trading] Chris Johnston on Insider Trading says there is some sticker shock on the price for Gavrikov and CBJ are not budging on the ask, they’d like 3 draft picks: 1st, 3rd and a 4th, at least one team was told this week.

Good. That’s how trade negotiations work. Seller starts high buyer starts low then they meet somewhere in the middle

r/hockey has a lot of salt. I wish jarmo was good at negotiating contracts as he is negotiating trades

  3. I mean, that’s a discount compared to the asking price of Chychrun, which is 2 Firsts plus a prospect.

If there’s anything I trust Jarmo to do, it’s to get the most possible for a player in a trade so I don’t know why everyone is still questioning it

It’s Feb. 15. The trade deadline is March 3. CBJ have over 2 weeks to wheel and deal here. I’d be concerned if this was still the team’s position on March 2.

Also, note the sourcing here: “at least one team was told”. Johnston got this from a non-CBJ source, likely a team who wants to try to use media pressure to whittle down our initial asking price / leverage by signaling to the market “look how unreasonable Jarmo is being”. Probably hoping other teams will balk at the rumored high price and not call us to negotiate (forcing us to lower our initial ask). In other words, someone’s trying to negotiate in public to drive better terms.

  6. Honestly this is kind of a dumb headline. Valuable trade pieces like Gavrikov who can play a top 4 role always start with a first rounder plus another pick between 2-4.
