Happy motte is back but would’ve liked to keep gaut.
I think I’m ok with this. The price is high but Motte is just a better fit for this team than Gauthier. And if we are being honest, while Gauthier showed flashes, he was never going to live up to potential in New York

Gauthier started showing a bit of his goal scoring ability this year, but he was never really long for this team considering the roles GG wants his lines to fulfill, for better or worse. With him in the trade the pick is super low too, which is nice. Solid deal all things considered, even if in a vacuum I think Gauthier is better than Motte.
Moving Goat seems to keep Phantom Jake in the lineup though, so I assume we’re still in for another 4th liner (or less likely, another top 9 winger to push Vesey down to the 4th), or a call-up.

I wasn’t a big fan of Gauthier in the beginning but he was a good Ranger for the last two years, didn’t say boo when he was scratched and played hard when he came back in the lineup. Hope he gets a good opportunity in Ottawa
I’ll miss Goat, but he wasn’t drawing into the lineup consistently. We weren’t using him so hopefully he gets a good shake in Ottawa
I’m happy having Motte back. I think he will help give our 4th line more of an identity, adding another PKer is awesome, and his motor is just unmatched

I’m gonna miss Gauthier. I do find this move a bit odd considering Kravtsov was the one who requested a trade.

I’m going to miss Goat a lot but I’m happy Motte is back. This doesn’t solve the Leschyshen problem.

Feel like moving Gauthier means this is setting up another move to move Vesey back to 4th line or means they’re eyeing a Bjugstad deal for 4C
Damn I really like Gauthier too. Great to see Motte, we just need a solid 4th line center and if the team is feeling spicy, go for another right wing. After that it’s do or die
Gauthier was a below average player. Good size but zero ability to finish. Motte is a real 4th liner, team just got way better
Sad to see Gaut go, but it’s not a bad lateral trade for a player that was with us steadily through last playoffs. I hope Gaut does well up in Ottawa.
Plus, I think everyone’s missing this: Gauthier was an RFA with arbitration rights so he would be a more expensive piece for next year. Motte is just a rental and will go somewhere else next year. Now we can just get a league minimum 4th liner to fill that spot and then upgrade next year if we need. Or just play Jonny Brod.
