  1. Petty is a beast man i hope management actually tryā€™s to build a competitive team around him or else I see no reason for him to stay in VAN and Iā€™m saying this as a huge Canucks fan.

  2. Vancouver really, really needs an NHL team. We've had 50 plus years of inept management and players who are entirely wrong for the team and the city, (cough, Messier, cough). It seems that every time they get an actual grade A superstar, they do their very best to make that star feel unwanted, unloved and pissed off. The team should be moved out of Vancouver, anywhere but here, they'll never win the cup in Vancouver. Perhaps they could start over with an expansion team and this time do it right. The people of Vancouver have had their hearts broken so many times by management, the league and the city.

  3. I thought the marketing photo shown at the end for ā€œCanucks Leadershipā€ spoke volumes; OEL and Miller in the background and Pettersson at the front but yeah, that interview response makes it seem like he already knows itā€™s absolutely his to turn down.

  4. I think Hughes should be captain. Let Petey be Petey. Let him focus on tearing it up on the ice. Hughes has leadership qualities, and is a franchise defenseman.

Defensemen make great captains, as they see everything that goes down on the ice.

  5. Peaty will for sure be our next long term captain. That being said, I think he would benefit from a guy like Luke Schenn being captain and kind of teaching him the ropes for a couple years.

  6. I adore Petey, but if I'm picking the captain it wouldn't be him, at least not this early in his career. For the record, I have no problem giving it to young guys assuming they have grown up in a leadership role, always being captain among their age groups. I do agree that this market would accept it having had previous successes with Sedin and Naslund as the video mentions, but it's a gruelling job in the tough media market of Vancouver. Remember, those other guys were on good teams so they got to talk about the big win after the game whereas Pettersson will have to explain why the team gave up six goals again. šŸ˜‚

One more thing. Horvat didn't volunteer Petey's name as captain. He was specifically asked if PETTERSSON should be the captain (while they were together at the All-Star game, no less) and of course he answered in the affirmative as any person would do that isn't an asshole.

  7. I got a gut feeling they gonna name OEL or Miller captain? I don't hate the idea of Miller wearing a C, but I don't love I either.

  8. As a devils fan making nico captain was the best decision. They both came out of the same draft class so I donā€™t see why it would be a problem. I think nico is actually an amazing captain. Just takes the right personality. Hope petty makes the best decision for him and the Canucks.

  9. As a Captain I don't believe he needs to speak to the media as much as the Moronic media in Vancouver thinks ya do ! I mean they're like a bunch of teenage school girls here….I grow weary of them !

  10. Being captain seems like a bit of a burden on a tanking team, maybe they should wait until the team isn't a complete disaster.

  11. He's going to leave at the first opportunity ,so thats why he doesn't want to be captain. He wants to win the cup!

  12. Having played the game at competitive levels for years, quiet Captains aren't the best. The C shouldn't go to the best played but it should be pinnedto the chest with the guy who will call out the Team for bad play, pull the player aside who may be struggling

  13. Same draft and age as hischier too, not like heā€™s crazy young or anything. Totally captain material

  14. Hank was a great captain and he was pretty quiet too. He will be a perfect role model and will be able to support Petey if he needs!

  15. I look at it like having a kid. If you think you're ready, you're probably not. If the concept scares you a little bit, you're probably right for the job, because you're taking it seriously. If he's hesitant, that's a good thing. I think he's the right guy for the job, and his apprehension further proves that to me. This season has been a mess, so waiting until the beginning of next season is probably the best idea. Let him hang out a bit more with some other Swedish leaders like the Sedins who can groom him and get him ready.

  16. Honestly, the whole captaincy thing in the NHL is frequently overblown. It doesn't really mean that much in the end. When looking at other sports, it seems like nobody else really gives a crap in the slightest.

  17. Clearly JT Miller, has the best leadership ability and doesnā€™t have anger issues or goes out of his way blaming his teammates for his terrible plays.
