  1. Bring him into the line up …DO NOT Trade Knies …He will be 1 hell of a player in 1-2 years for the LEAFS 1st or 2nd line player

  2. Knies is a really good prospect, but I think Knies might be a bit overrated. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure he'll be an excellent 2nd line forward in 2-3 years, but not right now. Let's be objective here – his numbers are not as good as someone like Cole Caufield back when he was playing in the NCAA. Knies is actually 1 year older than Caufield was when he played in the NCAA too, and he still hasn't reached Caufield numbers. I think it's reasonable to assume he will have less of an impact than Caufield did if he were to join the Leafs roster this year.

Also keep in mind, Nick Abruzzese's numbers in the NCAA were really good too. Toronto played him for something like 10 games and he got 1 point. He's been doing okay in the AHL, but he's not killing it like Nick Robertson, who has went through more development. For me, I think Knies is a lot closer to Abruzzese than Caufield at this very moment. Either way, Meier is definitely better than Caufield was two years ago, and he will be better than Knies is right now.

One also has to ask, if it's likely that Knies is going to be good 2 years from now, what does that version of the Leafs look like? Well, I can tell you – it will be a team that is not as good as the one we have right now. Out of Samsonov, O'Reilly, Bunting, Kerfoot and Holl, we can probably only re-sign two of them (maybe 3 if Dubas buys out Murray's contract). Let's not forget, contracts of the core are up in 2 years and we have ZERO idea who is staying and who is going. On top of this, I think it's safe to say that Tavares is not going to be the same player 2 years from now – he'll be 34 years old and we've already seen him struggle at times with his speed. Is this the team Knies is going to dominate in? Is this the reason we're not trading Knies? I don't see as strong of a contender here.

On top of this, the Atlantic Division is getting more competitive by the season. When I look at a team like Buffalo, I definitely see at least one Stanley Cup in their future, and Detroit and Ottawa will eventually become more dominant. I don't think Tampa is slowing down either. Our division is going to be really competitive in the following years that maybe our chance to win a cup is at its highest right now.

Like it or not, the Leaf team this year is the BEST team I think Dubas has ever assembled, and is likely the best Leaf team we can assemble for some time. It probably won't get better than this – we got a lot of really great players at very low cap hits. With a guy like Meier, we will have the best shot of winning a cup since 1967 – I truly believe that. Meier is a left winger – a position we desperately care about right now – who is in his prime and is at the same age as our core. He fits in perfectly. In the playoffs, we lose by really close margins – like 1 goal in Game 6 and 7 last year – and Meier is exactly the kind of player that can get us that extra goal in times of need, especially if Matthews is being shut down.

Put another way, if we don't have faith in this team with Meier to justify the risk, why should we as fans have more faith in the team 2 years from now that has a 5 million dollar Bunting and Samsonov on it with a slower, less effective Tavares?

I really think we should get Meier.
