All indications are the Boston Bruins and Columbus Blue Jackets are nearing a deal involving defenseman Vladislav Gavrikov. The only wrinkle seems to be Boston’s need to shed some cap space.

Ian McLaren discusses the reports and wonders whether the reported asking price is worth it, and breaks down what the Bruins really need to add prior to the trade deadline.

  1. No one is talking about it, but if we're talking about adding a scoring winger, I think it would be worth a gamble to try to get Boeser from Vancouver. He's underperforming A LOT this season which makes me think he's injured or that team as a whole has just sucked and that's doing it. But, when he's on, he's a top 6 scoring winger and because of the year he's having I think he could be gotten for a 3rd round pick.

  2. Reports I've read this morning have Lohrei included in the deal. If you're willing to move Lohrei, there's zero reason to not use him in a Chychrun trade.

  3. As a Blue Jackets fan…Gavrikov would be a great add to any room. Could it be an overpayment, yes but that's the market price for that type of player. Plus, Jarmo usually can somehow swing these deals, he got a 1st for Foligno, a 1st for Savard, 2 firsts plus Boqvist for Jones, Panarin for Saad…the dude is a tactician in trades (most of the time anyway). However, I don't trust teams and I wonder if this "framework" is being used by the Bruins as leverage to get Chychrun or keep Gavrikov on the burner while they work other deals, then just walk away.
