xGA/60 for Blues defensemen since 2015. Notice the sharp increase in xGA/60 the Blues defensmen experience after the cup win.

  1. Ah, yes, I see. Very interesting.

    What does that mean again?

xGA/60 = The amount of expected goals against when that player is on the ice. A lower number is better.

Data from Natural Stat Trick. This is at 5v5. Really interesting that Petro has been more or less league average at suppressing xGA over his career. The Blues D-Corp started seeing an increase in xGA/60 in 19-20, (note that Krug was not on the team at this point). While xGA/60 have been going up over the last half decade, the Blues D-Corp more or less followed the league trendline. However, we can see large jumps by Krug, Faulk, Parayko, and Mikkola over the past 3 seasons. Parayko is the only one that has been able to flatten it out.

GA = Goals Allowed in this context? So higher is worse?

I’ve been saying for a while I don’t think Chief is the issue, but I wish they’d make an assistant coach change. We gotta change something up defensively and I think a schematic change would be the easiest thing vs a whole reconstruction of the blue line

It can’t be said enough how fucking awful that Krug contract has been since day 1. You can’t be giving 7 years to a 5’7″ 30yo PP specialist.

The loss of Larry Robinson and his affect on the d corps cannot be overstated.

Krug and Faulk together are a bad idea – they both need shit down partners

Something I talk about a lot that I don’t see anybody else talk about is Hitchcock’s affect on the players he coached. The cup winning team was built on guys that developed under Hitchcock like Steen simultaneously playing hard and doing the responsible thing night in and night out, especially the forward group. I think this season has been the last dying gasp of that culture dying in the Blues locker room and our history of having an overperforming blueline as a result dying with it.

Disclaimer: this is based on a very small sample size because I don’t watch much hockey anymore.

So Bobby Bo needs more ice time. Van Ryn needs to be fired. Krug needs to go, I think he hurts Faulk’s stats. And we all hate Parakyo and he needs a change of scenery as well.
