  1. 1 question about the Sabres and back to the Maple Leafs. Maybe change the title of this segment?

  2. No. Sabres have been good but inconsistent this season. We need to focus on the group we have now and get better in the coming years. Making the playoffs would only mean that we play the Bruins. Thats an easy sweep, and thus a waste of money to bring in a rental.

  3. If there's a veteran dman or a gritty forward available they should be in on them. They have the assets.

  4. Pegula family ownership still have debts to pay to the hockey gods after their treatment of Ted Nolan and Pat LaFontaine. They're doomed.

  5. The sabres should absolutely be looking to buy. This franchise hasn’t been this close to the playoffs in years, they should reward their team with some additions.

  6. Sabres have so much young talent up front they can spare some along with Picks and Cap to bring in a Player or 2 worth trading for like Chykrun and maybe a Lawson Crouse a Max Domi or a Boone Jenner. Sabres have another 4 picks in the first 2 rounds in this draft. They can spare some draft capital along with a few young prospects.

  7. Imo they should make a move but a small one. No need to rush anything this season, just make one or a couple slight upgrades that’ll last longer than just this season.
Depth defense (especially RHD) sticks out to me as a need that could be addressed here, and personally I think they should trade for Dante Fabbro.
Without going into a whole Ted Talk here, he’s consistent on defense and could bring enough stability to the 2nd or 3rd pairing to keep them from being such a huge liability. While he’s weaker on offense, that’s where the rest of the sabres shine. Bonus points for Fabbro’s strengths lining up with the current Sabres’ defensive depth’s biggest weaknesses (preventing high danger shots and getting out of the dzone). Not to mention him being a RFA at the end of the season so the Sabres will be able to re-sign him, unlike players like Luke Schenn who would basically just be a rental for the rest of this season.
The Preds look like they’ll be sellers at the deadline, and I think it would be really worthwhile to see how expensive it would be to trade for Fabbro. If the Sabres can get him for a reasonable price, I think he would potentially be a huge upgrade for their defense. I’m surprised more people haven’t mentioned him as a potential trade target, ik he’s kind of under the radar as a player but he seems like he’d be such a good fit at RHD.
