[Mercogliano] Igor Shesterkin has posted an .865 SV% in 5 starts since the all-star break, which the reigning Vezina Trophy winner admitted has fractured his confidence. The good news? “We have one more month until playoffs, so everything is in my hands.”

Vince don’t use the word “fractured” in a tweet about a struggling Igor please and thank you

In a sick way I’m happy he’s getting his slump out of the way now.

We’re destined for the playoffs regardless. let him get In the zone later In the year. He’s done what he needs so far, he’ll lock it up when it’s needed the most.

Not that Igor or the fanbase or anyone hasn’t already noticed this but I’d say since like the turn of the new year where I really get concerned is just simply getting beat on some wrist shots from the faceoff dot or further with no screen. A clean 1v1 shot say over the glove.

Every so often… it happens, ya get beat. Playing goaltender against NHL snipers is hard. But they seem to be picking corners on Igor in a way that we NEVER used to see.

It’s a ridiculously high bar we hold him to, but last year your only shot to beat him was a dirty, well earned goal when the D in front of him just totally and completely left him out to dry and the attackers had multiple swipes at the puck. Breakaway? Igor’s gonna bail you out. 3 on 1? Didn’t matter whatsoever.

Right now, that’s just not the case really. Could it mean nothing? Absolutely. He’s earned the right of some leeway here. Could just be a slump. And the team in front of him is probably going to be better than it was last postseason.

However, just expecting May 2022 Igor to re-appear this May is a bit hard to project right this moment. If We play Vasilevsky again… are you betting on Igor to be the better goalie of the two in the series like he was last year? Last year we had 6 months of evidence and built up confidence that Igor was gonna carry us on his back.

There’s a Big difference between elite goaltending and above average come playoff time is all I’m saying.

Igor can play better (and I think will), but our defense can also help him out a lot more.

He is going to be insanely dialed in for a cup run. Igor has won his whole career and he will continue.

    Bring it home Shesty

He is just conserving his energy so he can absolutely fuck everyone in the playoffs.

    I’m manifesting that shit now.

  7. This sub: fuck him he’s a bum, package him with kravstov for a deal for Kane. How dare he have 5 bad games

It really doesn’t help when the defense let SEVERAL high danger chances every single game. The defense really needs to step it the fuck up because how he played last year is not sustainable. It’s great that all the defensemen are great offensively, but that doesn’t mean jack shit when you’re leaving your goalie to save every single shot uncontested resulting in getting 4+ goals a game scored on you.

“fractured his confidence?” He’s a pro athlete, seems a bit soft.

Honestly if I were a goalie I would refuse to play in the ASG. There’s no defense in front of you (and shouldn’t be) and you’re just getting the onslaught of pucks. Just not a good way to spend time
