Officially ruled out for the remainder of the 2022-23 season including playoffs

  2. Jeez, did he really only play 4 games?

    Thats wild.

Man, you knew it was coming, but still sucks to see/hear. Feel like it’s inevitable he gets LTIRetired 🙁

Thanks for everything Muzz, best of luck in life after hockey!

Thanks for what you did for us, Muzz. He was a playoff warrior for us and played until he had to be carried off the ice. We all knew this was coming, but it still hurts. They say he’ll be reevaluated, but I think we all know this is goodbye, at least to Muzzin the hockey player. I hope we find a place for him in the organization if he wants one.

Whatever cushy job he wants with the leaf’s/MLSE he’s got. Guys beloved in the locker room and hoping he sticks around this team in some capacity.

After reading a bit on cervical spinal cord injuries, it makes a lot of sense. No hockey game is worth risking becoming paralyzed or worse

  7. griftarch

I’d like him behind the bench for the vibes

  8. RattledRed

He is a warrior who had really bad luck with injuries the last couple years and playoffs.

I hope he heals fully, and dosnt have any long term effects for his health and day to day life.

Love me some Muzz! Heal up 🙂

  9. NoOffer5595

Let’s win the cup this year so he can get a ring!

  10. Robidas Island renamed to Muzzin Island out of respect. Nerve and spine injuries are not to play around with.

  11. soulfate515

He should sue. The way the leafs have managed him the past year is disgusting. The guy uad 2 concys in a month and they kept dragging him back out until Marner gave a euology.

  12. TheCarrier89

Expected but still sad. For a few seasons there he was our most reliable and physical defenseman. Hope he can fully recover and lace ‘‘em up again next season and if not have a happy retirement.

  13. Rowdy_Roddy96

This sucks! Absolute Warrior Muzzin is and nobody would wish for a hockey career to end like this but people would also not want it to continue to possibly paralyze and change the man’s life forever. I want Muzzin in the locker room in every playoff game. We still need his leadership and voice

  14. Darth_K-oz

I was really hoping his injury would miraculously recover in the playoffs. Hope he has a great quality of life and hoping he didn’t screw his body over.

  15. Shame, love what Muzzin brought to the team, but health comes first.

  16. I’ll never forget the puck flip at Tkachuk, thanks for everything Muzz.

  17. backstreets_93

Very sad. I think both the Columbus and Montreal series go different if Muzzin plays both the entire time.

  18. Ksquared-1

Can someone explain what this means for the cap? Have the leafs already been using muzzin’s cap space all year while he’s been in injury reserve (I.e., this doesn’t impact the current cap space at all)?

  19. Full update: The Toronto Maple Leafs announced today that after follow-up consultation this month with various specialists, our medical staff have determined that defenceman Jake Muzzin has been ruled out for the rest of the 2022-23 regular season and playoffs as he recovers from a cervical spine injury.
The club will provide a further update as to his status at training camp in September 2023. Muzzin skated in four games with the Maple Leafs this season and recorded one assist.

Just link to the article, why is this linked to a twitter post that links to an article lol

  21. The-Only-Razor

Awful for Muzzin, but great for the team.

Despite the fact that Muzzin is very good, our defense has weirdly looked better when he’s out. It’s worse than the sum of it’s parts when he’s in, and I don’t fully understand why. Maybe it’s the improvement of Sandin and especially Lily that is making up for him gone. Either way, that cap space opening up for free for the rest of the season could be the difference maker for a deep run.

  22. slashthepowder

Unfortunate but expected however in the flip side it was pointed out to me the other day all of the Leafs coaching/front office staff that have played in the NHL were all forwards (ie. they don’t have any former NHL defenders on staff).

  23. Was Muzzin the first former Greyhound Dubas acquired? I’m going to miss that dude. Give him a coaching gig!

  24. gerryhallcomedy

This sucks. He was literally impossible not to like. Hard working, physical, talented…even if we were getting him at the tail end of his career. Hopefully he enjoys a back pain free retirement.

  25. mikeydavison

Happy that he’s doing the right thing for his health.

  26. Just am glad he will be healthy for his family and kids. He is young and does not need more milage and damage on his body. Thank you Hot Muzz!

  27. gordiehockey9

Sean durzi and trevor moore for campbell and muzzin was veryyyyy bad trade

  28. MutedHornet87

    Not surprising

I hope Dubas will use that cap space wisely and am happy the contract isn’t counting. I wasn’t a big Muzzin fan, but only in terms of his play in recent year(s). I wish him well personally and do like him.
