Stay pat during the trade deadline as you have to think for the future as the sens needs these things done:
* Debrincat extension * Pinto extension * Brannstrom extension * Future Sanderson extension * Signing or acquiring a top 4 RHD * Signing or acquiring a goaltender

Here I am, still hating the Bobby Ryan buyout.
More shortsighted shit.

The fact that most of our dead cap is going to be gone on Sanderson’s ELC is going to help a lot.

Next year will be the tightest.
The 2024 off-season should be much smoother. Sanderson will need his big boy contract, but they also have the Murray retention + Ryan/MDZ buyouts gone and White’s becomes a cap credit.
Factor in an expected Calgary cap jump and we should be good for the future.
Just have to be smart about this off-season

Here’s my take if we are hoping to add a top 4 D and re-sign Debrincat, which seem to be the consensus moves to make this team competitive. Also accounts for a goalie on similar term and value to Forsberg, which gives some insurance if he takes a while to return to form after the injury.
Wildly speculative but think we could conceivably achieve this in one trade for Chychrun and Vejmelka and that’s what I’m going with. My proposal is Boucher, Thomson, Sogaard, 2024 1st and 2nd, and Joseph.
This satisfies the Coyotes ask of two 1sts and a 2nd equivalent for Chychrun, a goaltending prospect and a 2nd for Vejmelka, and a roster player for cap reasons who may prove useful during the rebuild. In this scenario our roster for next season is lean on depth without ELC players like Greig and Ostapchuk stepping up, but we can’t afford to pay Joseph $3m to play in our bottom 6 with upgrades in other areas.
Just speculating on line combos/what could be fun, and roughly what I think new deals might look like for FAs. Here it is for next year:
Ostapchuk $847,500 — Kastelic $835,000 — Kelly $762,500
Brassard $750,000
Chabot $8,000,000 — Chychrun $4,600,000
Sanderson $925,000 — Zub $4,600,000
Brännström $1,300,000 — Hamonic $900,000
Heatherington $762,500
Vejmelka $2,725,000 — Forsberg $2,750,000
Cap Total incl. buyouts: **$83,497,380**
Again, this is making a number of assumptions but I think reasonable ones. We’re right up against the proposed $83.5m cap so our hands would be tied to this. I’ve thought about the possibility of Winnipeg trading Connor for Debrincat who comes about $1m cheaper.

Anyway, that’s it.
Time to bring back Karlsson.
Every single UFA should be moved.
