The New York Islanders have preferred playing veterans since Lou Lamoriello become GM but they’ve been forced to play younger players this year due to injury. But that has been a good thing as players like Hudson Fasching and Arnaud Durandeau have been making solid contributions to the team and given them some jump.
We also discuss the future of Ruslan Iskhakov and discuss the possible moves the Isles can make at the trade deadline.
Plus we have a full preview of this weekend’s games against the Los Angeles Kings and Winnipeg Jets.
All this and more on today’s Locked On Islanders Podcast with Gil Martin.

So are we trading for picks now? Or are we going all in?
HI Gil. Not like that was the plan. Isles have played well when the younger players get into the line-up. The hungry ahl'ers give isles a boost of youthful jump and enthusiasm that seems to rub off on the old vets. But that isn't sustainable. Reality says that lack of talent will catch up with isles down the line. You can't expect ahl type talent/career ahl'ers to suddenly transform into top nhl'ers and get this team into the playoffs and beyond. And isles playoff bid is being helped because pens and caps are playing horrible at the same time. Caps lost again and are already selling players off. Pens got slapped at home by mcd and oil 7-2. A loss so bad pen fans were chanting 'FIRE HEXTALL'. And hot wings beat rags 4-1 and are now in eighth. So pens/caps fall plus all those games isles have played keep isles in this race. The question still is what will lou do by 3 p m next friday. Sell, add, or stay put? He'll probably just sit put and kid himself the ahl'ers are gonna save the season. Not much else lou can do except watch and wait probably wishing he had ammo to join the tdl party as other east teams get better. Good show again.
