Doug Armstrong press conference

St. Louis Blues General Manager Doug Armstrong addresses comments made by the team after a Feb. 23 overtime loss to Vancouver and how the team can move forward after recent radical personnel changes.

  1. This thing is really starting to snowball and become a disaster. Some of these players play like they’re not even being paid, like it’s some sort of beer league, have-fun-with-it type of thing. It’s not ok.

  2. Just an arrogant man, who cut the legs off of this team, doesn't want to take any of the blame, and now chastises them for not being able to run.

  3. I hope this can show the organization how everything is being handled. You still have to fight through the tough times. The fans are doing it for you (well the real fans lol) and we would love to see a 110% fight. Through the toughest of times and toughest of battles come the greatest of rewards. It's time to battle.

  4. In the words of Michael Scott, "well, well well how the turntables"……. Blues will get through this trough eventually and we'll see some true leaders emerge.

  5. A lot of this wouldn't happen if Armstrong didn't hand out bad contracts like they were candy. He's great at trading but he's horrible at signing players.

  6. Strongly disagree with Armstrong here because the players bear more responsibility than a third.
Also disagree with him speaking out about Berubes comments because Berube was right for finally calling out what has been obvious to fans for awhile now.
Don’t want to be called out in public? Put forth the damn effort you are paid to.
There should be no excuse for the efforts they’ve shown at times.
I had a feeling Alexy would suffer some fallout for his comments and that’s unfortunate because no veteran was enough of a leader to say it

  7. Better hit on those picks, Armstrong! 😡

Because as it stands now you’ve assembled a team full of alleged leaders who are in actuality as mentally tough as Charmin!

  8. Who is Armstrong specifically talking about? I missed the post game comments?
I turned the game off as soon as it was over and threw the remote.

  9. What’s the big fucking deal? Torts says shit like this 200x a season. Berube isn’t a pushover. Thomas is pissed. Shit won’t be pretty, but this isn’t a big deal

  10. Get Parayko a sports therapist, because he can't get out of his own way, let alone our tendy's way. That or deal him. I've always been a huge fan and supporter of his, but he's playing snakebitten. He's got something going on and he needs to fix it or move on. The organization will move forward and we will get better, but we have to find some grit and some chemistry, and get back to our way of hockey.
Also, start putting the dang puck on net. Please stop passing 12 times before trying to find a shot, a bad shot ON GOAL, can end up a GOOD bounce.

  11. Doug talks like a true politician!! STL BLUES we don’t want Armstrong anymore and fire him as soon as possible!! Please 🙏

  12. These young guys were the next generation, coming in to replace the old guard, and they were paid accordingly. They're not performing accordingly.

Berube was right to call them out. I've liked Thomas a lot, but he's not performing, and apparently he can't handle being called out. That's not being a team player, that's being a diva.

I think at this point we need to start seriously considering more than just a soft rebuild. If this core is already buckling now, they'll break in playoffs too. Nothing here says Cup material.

  13. I'd fire coach immediately, basically calling his players, gutless, overpaid, lazy players, that's brutal, this guy was a bigmouth as a player, but as a coach you need to bolster your troops, not gut them. He's gotta go, Now.

  14. Have you done everything you could. Not Parayko, way overpaid for his effort/play. He is going to continue to play like Helen Keller or Sgt Schultz from Hogans Heroes. He sees nothing (LOL). I can't hit him, I might brake a nail (lol). There are girls who play more physical than he does and he is 6'6''. Walker fights more for his team/teammates and he is 5'6''.

  15. Torps needs to look in the mirror? Binner? I don't think so. Go find your own mirror. Blues were/are a one year wonder in 19. Face it. Our D is a joke.

  16. colorado and carolina built through the draft .. you dont get a makar, natemac, jarvis, necas etc without rebuilding/drafting high for around 2 years or so ..svenikov was picked 2nd overall and jarvis was picked 5th overall in the nhl draft .. not some teams left overs armweak and tommy boy want to sign to make playoffs each year and lose but profit

  17. Coach dis what he needed to do … sometime players need to kick in the butt… GM did his job playing the middle ground…. now the players need to do what they can play and play hard

  18. i hope the blues lose every game this season and get the best draft pick.. im still buying a jersey and going to a game.. this whole we have to win every game and not retool is asinine unless youre an investor and just want profit returned ..im a fan not a owner

  19. I bet Kyrou didn't know any of this was happening until he showed up at the rink for practice today. He probably just went home and played video games, fell asleep, and woke up at the last second.
Dude only shows emotion when he misses the net.

  20. I guess it is a sign of the times! You can not call a page a spade! I saw this not only in sports, but also at any job in the recent past!People do not converse any more!People ,need to admit their faults,we all do.We are not as pristine as the new fallen snow!Stop being so fragile, own up to the situation at hand.I know as a old person, people will say go away old man!I am 74 years old and I was brought up to admit your mistakes,it will make you a better person!

  21. Love Army, but he made 4 grave contract mistakes. Parayko, Krug, Thomas, and especially Kyrou aren’t worth one cent that they are getting or will get. I would rather held on to Perron, Maroon, Husso, and Sunny regardless of their age.

  22. Armstrong's been on a losing streak since he let Pietrangelo go. It affected the locker room to let the captain go and pay the guy (tarasenko) who wanted to leave. Letting Perron leave was another huge mistake. Let's hope he turns it around with the draft.

  23. And there's another 33%- all of us fans. We supported this team on their ride to the top. They need our combined support and understanding now more than ever. Remember, losing hurts more than winning feels good. Don't give up on these guys. We all want the same thing here. . .

  24. This is a bunch of characterless independent contractors, for sure, but our loyal STL media didn't even ask him about that, having such a great opportunity! They are as lazy as those contractors who decide they can't show up post games like that (#50 yesterday, and many other "leaders" (typically)). They need to organize a media riot (a boycott) and not show up postgame if that happens again – then maybe those contractors will think it twice about their social duties next time.

  25. Interesting that I made a comment basically agreeing with Chief and Torpo…then my comment got removed. Hmmm.🤔

  26. The problem is chemistry. Say what you want about it…Love it or hate it, ‘Gloria’ won us the cup. Or rather, the chemistry ‘Gloria’ brought won us the cup. Before ‘Gloria’, Doug Armstrong had a team that was great on paper but was struggling without chemistry. I’m not saying ‘Gloria’ should or needs to come back. I’m simply pointing out that a lot of professional sports managers fail to recognize the power of chemistry. Thankfully, the boys found chemistry organically on their own in 2019. A lack of chemistry has plagued this team since 2019 and straight up killed this year’s team. Doug Armstrong does not recognize chemistry as an important factor in a winning team. He made this known when he let the best locker room guy go (Maroon) for pennies. He made this known when he let Perron go (again). He made this known with his recent comment in the press conference following the O’Reilly trade. Watch 11:00 to 11:24 of this:
