Saukrates – Caps 11

An exclusive track put together by Saukrates for this year’s Black History Day at Capital One Arena, “Caps 11” honors the Capitals alumni that helped break drown barriers and pave a bright future for Black players in the sport of hockey.

We know the world can be cold
just stay number 1 in love with your soul

I had 11 on my mind, it was time to reflect

Blastin GO-GO, Chuck Brown in the deck,
Junkyard in the deck, EU in the deck
Reminiscin’ on classics with all due respect
Speakin’ of legends I decided to head over to Landover
SE DC, home of the Cannons
Where Black folk build excellence on ice
I said 11, the Caps list is nice!! It goes:

Mike Marson in ‘74,
’77 Bill Riley, the year i was born
Rocked the whole DMV when Reggie Savage got goin’
Let’s meet on F Street and sing the song…

We know the world can be cold
just stay number 1 in love with your soul

Washington Capitals got that smoke
Gotta stop at Ben’s and get a half-smoked
All 4 quarters (corners) let’s meet in the middle and
Ask Neal Henderson to fill the Stanley Cup
He said: “Remember Anson Carter?

I said: “Yes, alum at my high school sir.”
Then came Mike Grier, and Jason Doig,
Jean-Luc Grand-Pierre, can’t duck the boy

and Donald Brashear he’d break ya toys

Joel Ward is my momma-friend-nephew so we boys

Madison Bowey indeed, the rings with

Devante Smith-Pelly, the whole DMV shoutin’ DSP!

We know the world can be cold
just stay number 1 in love with your soul
