No NHL hockey player should have to go through this..

#nhl #hockey #hockeytraining

In a game between the Pittsburgh Penguins and Colorado Avalanche, superstar Cale Makar suffered a concussion with a blindside hit. Makar would play the remained of the game & wasn’t pulled by any NHL spotters. The same thing would happen 11 days later. We discuss the protocol and what needs to change moving forward.

  1. Sorry bud, but you've got this all wrong. The NHL needs to penalize dirty hits, not alter concussion protocol. I like hits in hockey, but I'm sick and tired of the dirty hits aimed at injuring a player. It's sadistic and completely unnecessary to the game. I want to see 5, 10, 15 game suspensions instead of these 2 min. slap on the wrists.

  2. You can’t tell me that Carter didn’t go after Makar’s head. The NHL is a joke for not taking some action against Carter. Carter knew what he was doing and knew how to fool the idiot referee who was only a few feet away. Markar is a star whose career and livelihood is in jeopardy. This is a joke. Coming from a Bruins fan.

  3. “No hockey player should have to go through this” buddy it’s professional hockey that’s very physical and they signed up for this! They get paid milk for this exact reason so stop acting like it’s avoidable.

  4. its one concussion. you dont just get two concussions in 11 days. the st louis incident is just a reaggravation. its likely more a neck issue than a head issue, just like Sidney Crosby in 2011.
Cale Makar likely felt great going into that second game and then unfortunately he succumbed to that reaggravation. it happens.
    P.S, im an avalanche fan.

  5. This really needs to be on the frontlines of hockey news right now. Generational talents like McDavid or Bedard can have their careers wiped out in an instant if their clubs dont take proper care of them

  6. This same exact thing just happened in the NFL with Tua Tagovailoa, guy had crippling concussions in back to back weeks of playing. These orgs and the leagues need to look out more for players safety. Itll be sad if his career is cut short if this persists

  7. There gonna have another Crosby situation if they don’t give players with concussions actual time to heal. Like after his first one he shouldn’t have even been on the ice. It takes at least 14 days for 80% of your brain to recover from a concussion. He got another concussion 11 days later. Soon enough he’ll be out for months maybe even have his career in jeopardy

  8. ALL hits to the head should be 5 min. That would slow down concussions real quick

  9. The Avs are softer than baby shit on the ice and morally bankrupt in the front office. How else can you let your star get continuously demolished and be like, nah he good

  10. ive got Makar on my fantasy team and really could have used him latly but I completely understand that he shouldn't be playing, just wish they accept it and put in IR instead of just Out for my fantasy teams sake but im not mad at him at all just the leagues problem of putting high ranked players back out too fast

  11. Just feels cruel. These guys have the killer instinct required to play elite sport, they don't know how to stop/don't care for self-preservation in the moment. It's entirely on the league and Team management to protect their assets, it's in the best interest of the players and game going forward.

  12. To start, get rid of those massive shoulder pads. Shoulders can be rebuilt. Brains? Not so much.

  13. Makar is a professional athlete, he wants to be on the ice at all times (why wouldn't he?), the reaction of 'the team should pull him until playoffs' is an extremely shortsighted reaction based on personal bias. He makes his own decisions with the help of the professionals the team employees. He will be one of the faces of the franchise for years to come. Do you think any of those doctors want to be the one who is remembered for ruining his career? lol.

  14. I’m not going to hold it against the league until the players themselves take it seriously. And I’d caution the league playing tools much of a role because if they become too overzealous, then you have a different problem. Like it out not, the people who have to live with it should be the ones making the decisions.

  15. They could quit. Hockey is a hard game. Crosby is still playing. He won two more cups. It’s what he wants.

  16. How is there no suspension on the first one? If the league wants head hunting out of the game, then do something serious about it.
    Ps. I’m an oilers fan.

  17. In MLB a player can't return to play after being placed in the concussion list, until cleared by an independent doctor not affiliated with the team

  18. NHL players are dumb. I've had many concussions. If a player is "out of it" and continue to play, that's THEIR responsibility

  19. im pissed that carter didnt get a suspension for the hit, it was such a dirty look and it seemed to me that because the game was lost he decided welp ill take their best player out cuz i can. Disgraceful. I hope makar gets healthy quickly but smoothly and we dont have a repeat of sid the kid's situation

  20. Honestly I have to agree with the NFL on this one, there should be a neutral party determining if any player is allowed to return. This is the type of stuff that can potentially kill people, ruin careers, and have effects well after the player is retired

  21. Teams have been actively trying to take out Colorado Avalanche players for a few years now. If you don't believe me, then you are either biased against them (which is likely most of you), or you haven't been paying attention. Without these injuries, Colorado is the best team in the entire league by a large margin. WITH the injuries, they're still in contention for a Cup. This is not even up for debate. This organization is being targeted. A novel could be written about it.

  22. he shouldn't of played the rest of the game. my brother was a goalie and had a concussion and played then he got second impact which ended his career

  23. Doctors should have the last say. Even if the players say theyre ok, the doctors should have the authority to prevent them from coming back.

  24. thank you!!! Not enough coverage is Highlighting Cale's Struggles this season. Is full contact pure … only the ones taking the contact will ever truly know
