Massive W for someone we were losing either way

Functionally a free pick for us at this point and I can’t imagine him being worth any more than that, so good trade.

The goalie drafted by the Sabres, go back to college, wind up in LA pipeline is strong again!

So we got a 3rd for someone who wasn’t going to sign with us. Great deal

Sabres get an asset for a player that was always complimentary of the organization but was never going to sign; and the player gets a little more intel about another organization. Win win. Best of luck to Portillo.

As an aside: just more proof that there’s always a GM in this league willing to do something illogical.
