WE NEED TO TALK ABOUT JACK CAMPBELL… | Edmonton Oilers Options Are Extremely Limited

The Edmonton Oilers don’t actually have any moves they could make when it comes to Jack Campbell, so at that status, what can they do?

  1. My buddy, an Oilers hater, said most of those goals were off sticks and not his fault, he seems to draw games where the boys are tired or just not making good choices

  2. Thank you Doly for being the kind of fan that says the things that the boys need to hear while still showing true support for them. I only hope the players get to hear the things you say.

I agree, we need more from you Campbell, show us your stuff cuz we know you can play better!

  3. I have to agree that something has to be done with Campbell. I don’t wanna disrespect him but Skinner is a much better goaltender than him. I have no confidence in Campbell and I don’t know why he is the number one goalie. When I Oilers did all attempts to get the right players on their team by the end of the trade season they should’ve been looking for a goaltender that would do a good job with the Oilers. Over the years Edmonton has had some great goaltending but in the last few years the goaltenders have struggled big time and it’s not fair to the owners club to have a goaltender that cannot do the job. Skynyrd would be my First choice to be number one goalie and two like I said I respect everyone but Campbell has got to go

  4. Campbell is the best goalie in the league………. at making himself look small in net, sure they scored on deflections, but he is down on his knees and compressed already, playing net is about making yourself as big as possible so that shots you do not see have a much higher chance of hitting you, of course great reactions, reading your angles, challenging shooters and such are needed as well, look at the difference in how Soups looks compared to Stew. I really like Campbell and as a person he seems like a great guy and I hope he can figure it out and help them into the playoffs and a deep run.
Woodcroft also needs to recognize when this is happening and make a switch, if he did we may have walked away with a win instead of a loss, and I know Skins had just played but he is also a young goalie and should be capable of stepping back in. oh well such is life.

  5. Clearly Campbell can't keep giving up 2 or 3 free goals every start. Mental errors and poor preparation are no doubt factoring in along with the Oilers giving up too many good chances. Campbell is just not a good option right now. Let's hope Skinner gets on a roll like he was before the all star break. Its probably too late to try brining Pickard up. His AHL stats are not that great anyway.

  6. Your audio level sucks, needs repair. Campbell also needs repair (maybe therapy or something). Goaltending is 70% mental, and he's just not there. No easy answers on this. Since Oilers elected to nothing about getting a reasonably legit # 3 goalie they could bring in as needed, they have to hope Skinner will be able to do the job. Campbell is harder on himself than the fans and media could ever be. He was like that in Toronto as well. I'm only half kidding about therapy.

  7. It is a critical point … of course.. this team will last so long .. Time is running out… I would say wake up and smell the coffee.,

  8. Pickard has NHL experience. BOTH regular and Playoff games. He is about the same age as Soupy and has been around. He apparently had a very good training camp. (…the one Soupy barely played in???)…..And has been good for the Condors. so why not give Pickard at least one start and see how he is?
Then give Campbell some consecutive starts in the AHL.
Ask yourself this….when did Campbell play his best this year?…….When he went 8–0 to start 2023.
Skinner had just became a new Dad and they were playing Campbell a lot because they had to
    .
When did things start to slip again? ….AFTER the All-star break.
Maybe THAT is the problem. Campbell is not a great guy to share the net with, despite his positive attitude.
You either play the hell out of him (until he gets injured) or don't bother?
That is harder to do since Skinner has surpassed him in every category.
In which case Pickard truly might be better in a role as "backup."
Regardless, the emergence of Skinner this year and the ongoing saga of Campbell means Holland has some decision's and work to do this summer. Edmonton might not be the right place for Campbell.
Especially if they can get a more consistent and cheaper partner for Skinner.

  9. Here's one more thing to think about: what can we do? I think the best thing Oilers fans can do is send out words of support and encouragement. No matter what, whether we keep him or not, we want this guy to get better. Better for us or better for trade value. Unless you have an in with his coaching staff, we should just make sure we don't rattle him further with an uproar of ill will.

  10. Give Calvin Picard a chance to back up Skinner, send Jack Campbell to farm system , HAVE him fixed his mechanic problem, other wise oilers.. no going far into playoff ….

  11. Campbell is in a self-confidence crisis. I hope the Oilers will go through and play in the playoffs.

  12. Campbell sucks…no other words…his confidence is shot…personally I'd send him down and bring up Pickard…look at a buy out this summer…what a terrible mistake.

  13. No. The real issue is that the team has lost confidence in him. They play differently in front of Skinner. And that includes McDavid. First there was Koskinen who cost them a season. Now it's Campbell. If management can't get better in goal. McDavid will walk.

  14. I've said it a thousand times, and I'll say it again, the Edmonton Oilers organization is an absolute wizard at mismanging goaltenders, hence , the goaltenders are always subpar. I'm a Wichita Thunder fan, and also a beer league tender who follows the goaltending situation very closely, and I can honestly say, the goaltending has suffered because of sub-par management decisions on every level, whether it be signing over the hill tenders who now are hurting your salary cap at $2 mil a yr to playing musical tenders on every level since 2017 with the mismangment of tenders on the farm including the following: Dylan Wells, Shane Starrett, Ilya Konovalov, Nick Ellis, Al (what are you doing with my life) Montoya, Mikko (lower than a beer league level glove hand) Koskinen, Anton Forsberg, Troy Grosenick, to name a FEW. Every SINGLE tender on the farm since like 2017 has been mismanaged. How do I know this? I have watched the mis-management of them in Wichita since 2017. If you don't believe me, you should have seen the minor-midget "practices" I saw Rodrigue run when he'd stop in in Wichita to work with Starrett, Wells, and Skinner, in the 2017-2018 through 2018-2019 seasons. I was like, is this like a minor-midget, pee-wee practice/camp? It was laughable. Then there are the random, pick-ups and departures of people like Anton Forsberg, Nick Ellis, and the etc. Like what the hell are you doing trading for and paying for Troy Grosenick in 2020 and shipping him off to Boston (if my memory serves) after you wasted the money to get him here…I could go on and on with this. Edmonton: If you work for this organization, you have to have a resume of pissing money away on tenders and mismanaging them and never have the wherewithal to develop one. The one exception to this is Stuart Skinner, but he's still developing and not in the solid starter, 60 games a season, get you to the 3rd round every season kind of tender yet. Solution: Fire Rodrigue, and his sub-par protege son Olivier, get on the phone, and beg someone like Michael Dunham from Boston or Rob Tallas from FLA to come back home to his hometown of Edmonton and pay them extra to coach the shit out of the farm.

  15. Campbell had a bad night, but the team in front of him did too. They just could not seem to clear their zone for extended periods of time. If you let the other team spend shift after shift in your end of the ice with bodies parked in front of your net, things aren't going to go well.

  16. How about the coaching staff teaching the players how to drill the puck off the glass or off the boards and down the ice when they are stuck in the zone rather then shooting it like its an egg just to avoid icing. I can't believe how bad the Oilers are in their own end. We need Ekholm to teach our other defensemen some basic hockey skills. I agree Campbell has to be better but some of the shots he let in last night were unstoppable.

  17. I always think that unless Oilers get a solid netminder they will never win a cup with respect to McDavid and Leon.

  18. Jack is horrible as a goalie! As a rich goalie he is great . Stopping pucks is brutal! Find a Jr B goalie to give it a try?

  19. Shoulda offered Arizona Jack Campbell and next years first for Vemelka.. that guy is a warrior on a shit team..

  20. NOTHING warms my heart MORE than too see the Oiler's DIVE….. The CURSE lives on!! BOO Sam Katz and the Oiler's. yay to NEVER winning a Stanley Cup or a Conference Title while Sam Katz is the OWNER.

  21. saving 85% of shots may be among worst in the league, but he is a great guy. I think the fans & owner are happy to set him up for a good life $25mil, but is a shame that he will take the spot from another player like a defenseman that we may need.
