  1. The way I see it, who "wins" will depend on how the Devils do in the playoffs with Meier AND if they can resign him (What if the Devils get kicked out in the first round and he doesn't resign, does it still look like they robbed the Sharks? no)

  2. Way to make a splash move GM Grier. You got fleeced. Those first round picks will be in the high 20s spot.
I bet the veterans left in SJ want out asap

  3. The same thing happened to the Devils when they traded Taylor Hall. They were given picks, Kevin Bahl, Nick Merkley, and Nate Schnarr. That deal definitely left me wanting more but all was forgiven when they drafted Dawson Mercer. San Jose is going to have to do their scouting homework and hope that they hit on a late pick. In the meantime, Fitzgerald won this trade.

  4. Can't believe that Devils got Meier without giving up Holtz… huge win for Devils…
He will be what Hall was supposed to be for the Devils…
THIS is the power forward the Devils needed…
Yes he will re-sign… can't see why you wouldn't… unless you truly are going for the $$$… this team is going to be relevant for next decade

  5. I don't think its as big of a fleece as people think. Mukhamadullin is much better than any give him credit for and Zetterlund is a solid top 9 player. Now it just comes down to SJ's drafting abilities.

  6. if devils gave Holtz sharks would have flecceed them, Holtz him Self is gonna better better than myers.

  7. The Sharks didn’t have to do this. Such a weird move from Mike Grier. He was acting like the Sharks we’re going to lose him and they had no other option. BRO, you didn’t have to do this!!

  8. I was sure my boy Grytsiuk was getting traded. He would have way more chances of landing a top 6 role in San Jose than New jersey for sure. There is also alex Holtz who must be wondering when he is gonna gets a fit somewhere.

  9. Look what happened to the Florida Panthers..That's why the devils had all these conditions..It's smart

  10. Devil's most likely face rangers or hurricanes in the first round. All three teams are good enough to move on. Devil's have the least experience and it is very possible they have back to back first round exits. The east arms race is going to cost a few teams for years

  11. For me, NJ doesn’t win this trade unless they sign him long-term and get a slightly team-friendly deal. 2 (possible) 1st rounders and a former first round defenseman is a lot for what is, at the moment, a 2 year rental. Also heavily depends on who the Sharks end up drafting with those picks. A lot of things have to happen before we know who wins/loses a trade. I honestly think it’s such a good trade for both sides.

  12. If you look at the players Jersey gave up… Johnsson had been mediocre for the Devils last year and found himself without a spot. Muk has potential but his place on the big team was probably taken by Nemec and Hughes. There was a battle for the 6/7 Dman slot between Okothuik and Kevin Bahl. Bahl has done a nice job and secured that slot for himself and has been played over Brendan Smith. Zetterlund is a nice player but in the end with Meier coming in he might have been odd man out anyway.

So all in all Fitz did a masterful job of working this trade and really not giving up anything that would have been a significant loss to the Devils

  13. The Devils gave up all those picks for a guy that might leave after the season. He’s not signed so I hope this trade was worth it

  14. This trade is a win win San Jose starts the true rebuild and New Jersey gets the best possible roster to run at the cup this year season has not disappointed even though my nucks pooched it lots of good trades picks being moved the east is fricken stackeddddddddd can’t wait for post season hockey gonna watch all the games hype asf

  15. Zetterlund’s upside is Blake Coleman. Would’ve MUCH rather kept him over Sharangovich. No one talked about Johnsson because he’s cap filler.

  16. SJ should get 3 NHLers out of this, so not bad when Timo wasn't going to resign anyway. Zetterlund will have a great opportunity, Muk should have a good NHL career, and maybe they get another with one of the picks. NJ definitely won, retaining the quality of their prospects and obviously getting their guy. We get Timo and still get to keep Holtz, Gritsyuk, Nemec, Hughes, Casey, Bahl? No other roster players? We're doing backflips 😎

  17. Mike Rupp announced a Meier trade Saturday after the Devils vs Flyers practice. How did he know ?

  18. I got the memo long before that Nemec, Mercer etc were untouchable. Fine whatever. I really don't care about Zetterlund, Johnsson, and Okhotiuk.

Give me Holtz, Muk, 2023 1st, and 2024 cond 2nd that turns to 1st if Meier re-signs. Apparently 7th oa Holtz is having trouble cracking the lineup cause he can't skate, fine whatever, see if you can flip him along with Labanc to get another 2023 low first. Retain if you have to. Or he becomes a project, which is fine, because the return we got looks like 50% of the names are projects anyway. And why did we add another 3rd liner to our team of 3rd liners?

  19. This really hurts as a sharks fan

Marleau ceremony reminiscent of the past and the day after this disaster trade happens. Winning the tankathon is all that’s left to hope for.

  20. I was sure Montreal would swoop in at the last moment and steal Meier…after all, they could offer Josh Anderson one for one! Haha

  21. Thats a big win for gm Tom devils didn’t have to get rid of any big name prospects so that’s an absolute win

  22. Love these deep dives into trades that go on in the league. I don't know who any of these guys are besides Meier lol. I don't have the time to learn about the entire league, so it's appreciated!
