On the one hand, so long as there’s enough quality ice to practice on that’s all you really need. On the other, though, it wouldn’t hurt to have a proper facility of their own

Would love to see the NHLPA and NBAPA do a facilities survey like the NFLPA just did. That was a real eye opener and would put pressure on the Kroenkes to build real practice facilities. As Cogs says in the article, that stuff has a real effect on whether FAs will come.

I don’t think anyone would argue that the Avalanche need a new updated facility. But this article would make you believe that the place they practice at is a total dump.
As someone who has kids who play youth hockey for Arapahoe and as someone who frequently visits the facility. I feel a bit disheartened about the way its being viewed. I admit, the building itself is old and a little run down. But really, its not that bad.

Learned how to skate there and met Joe Sakic at one point. Good memories 🙂

Yeah this has been one of the worst in the league for a while. It’s an embarrassment, and they’ve been using this “hey but wait for this new downtown development!…” excuse.
It’s not like it would be charity. The area is underserved on ice in the first place. An additional rink or two would be full at all times. If KSE really wanted to invest in hockey/future fans a new rink or two would be a great idea anyways.
At the end of the day of course spending on players coaches etc to win a cup is most important. But it’s silly we are still in this situation with family sports.

Imagine if that’s the reason the Avs didn’t land a big free agent.

the fact that the avs don’t have their own practice rink is a travesty they should have top-tier facilities they are a top-tier team and organization.

What happened to the new facility they were talking about last year?

Almost every other NHL team builds practice rinks near their arena that can also be utilized by the community.
There are currently no rinks downtown Denver to build the game of hockey.
Why doesn’t Kroenke seize this opportunity?

My men’s league plays here.
Definitely not the best ice I’ve played on.
Building is definitely run down.
I remember walking in there for my first game this year thinking “THIS is where the Avs practice???”

Article about practice facility is not paywalled.

Hope they can get some improvements for the boys.
