My new pipedream is that whoever conducts end of season interviews sits down with Chiarot and shows him examples of his erratic play this season and then comparable highlights of his hard nosed defense that got the Habs to the SCF and implore him to get back to playing winning hockey. He comes back as a defensive stalwart next year and lives up to his contract. I don’t even think it’s that unreasonable to hope for this, we’ll see.

A few weeks ago, following (or maybe during) our winning streak the broadcast had a really curious and cherry picked stat. It compared our Feb. 21 record to last year’s. We had four more points than last year at that point.. but it’s misleading due to last year’s season starting a few weeks later. So I’ve been following it.
As of today on March 7 in 2022-23 our record in 63GP is:
28-26-9 (65 points) 188GF 208GA -20 differential
Prior to March 7 in 2021-22 our record at 57GP was
24-26-6 (54 points) 163GF 203GA -40 differential
At the 63GP mark of the 21-22 season the record was
26-30-7 (59 points) 184GF 235GA -51 differential
Take from it what you will. It appears we’re comfortably 3 games better than last year thus far and a world of difference better in the net. Our offense is still anemic. We’ve scored four more goals this year, but scoring is up across the league. Teams are average 3.17GF per game than 3.14GF per game last year. So it’s more or less a wash there, and more a testament to just how good Husso has been and how improved our defnsemen have been as a unit.
Will be curious how this season unfolds. I think we may finish very closely to last year’s record but will have tightened up on letting in so many goals. Curious to see how Stevie rolls the dice this offseason to get us some more goals scored.
I’ve done tankathon multiple times over the last few days and Washington continually moves up for the 1st overall pick. Looks like 11th is the sweetspot.
