The USHL always uses a brand new puck kept in a cooler to prevent sticking and breaking. Andrew Prochno (the player who took the shot) holds the record for the hardest slap shot in the USHL at 70.94 mph (not hard but this is a minor league team) and the puck happened to hit the post on the face of the puck and not the edge. The face has less resistance therefore snapping and breaking the puck.
