Drury did not address our achilles heel this year: defense. Trouba has been our 5th best defenseman when healthy and plays like a 1 or 2. It is not just on him but he is one of the main reasons why our D has been so atrocious.

With our defensive liabilities and how offensively loaded the east is, I think the playoffs will ride or die with Igor. We are waiting for our Vezina Dark Knight to save Gotham

What having a kid does to an elite player

He’s played below his standards (which are crazy high) and I have no doubt being a new father is a contributing factor. However, the biggest reason he’s struggling is the defensive play by the team, they give up far too many high danger chances.
Last year teams were throwing the puck at Igor from everywhere to try and beat him and this year teams don’t have to because they get prime scoring chances constantly. Tons of odd man rushes, breakaways, defensive zone breakdowns where people end up in the slot or right in front of the net with the puck, letting players screen him and get deflections. The whole team defence has to improve otherwise this team will be bounced in the first round with swiftness.
In general the team right now isn’t playing like a TEAM. They are playing like a bunch of highly skilled hockey players trying to be super cute and make highlights. That’s the opposite of the teams like Boston, Carolina, Toronto, Colorado. All these teams have high skilled players COMMITTED to a TEAM system that has them all playing with skill while also playing good defence.
