GAME RECAP: Penguins vs. Islanders (03.09.23) | Marcus Pettersson’s 100th NHL Point



Superhero night kicked off at PPG Paints Arena against the New York Islanders. Anders Lee scored for the Islanders on a power play and take the 1-0 lead five minutes into the period. Jake Guentzel evens out the score with an assist from Marcus Pettersson. This marks Pettersson’s 100th NHL point. With 1:36 left in the 1st period, Jason Zucker finds the back of the net and the period ends 2-1, Penguins. Josh Archibald extend the Penguin’s lead in the 2nd period and the middle frame ends 3-1. In the 3rd period Hudson Fasching scored for the Islanders with 5:29 left in the game. Not long after, Anders Lee scores to tie the game at 3-3, and the game goes into overtime. In overtime, Brock Nelson scored for the Islanders and they win 4-3.

    We all knew this was coming even before the Islanders scored the 2nd goal. I told myself I'll believe they hold the lead when I see , and once again I didn't see it

    This one stings. Isles second goal….stupid turn over from our defense but a save Jarry should have easily had. Third goals…another save Jarry should have had. I'm rarely fully confident in either of our goaltenders for this reason. They'll make some amazing saves in the game and then let up really questionable goals at the most crucial point in the game.

    Sucky loss against a team we needed a win against. Good on Zucker for his 7 in 6 and Guentzel for opening up the scoring. When our team is able to play a full good 60 minute game I guarantee some big wins will unveil to us in the future. Let's put this one away and take down Philadelphia in the battle of Pennsylvania.

    kappy with 2 goals and an assist with the blues. brock with a goal for the ducks. blueger with a couple apples for the knights… but at least we have Bonino Bonino Bonino again! And we locked up another 31 year old winger for the next 2 1/2 seasons for just 5 million a season! And don't forget another 30+ year old defenseman! Lets get rid of all our young players and make it a rule – to play for the Pittsburgh Penguins, you have to be 30 years, or older. Sorry Jake, ya gotta go. You too Heinen. O'Connor, grab your things. Pettersson, PO, Jarry – too young, see ya later! Rakell, you're safe, bud – but barely. You'll be 30 in a few months. Keep up the great work, Ronny!

    Yet another 3rd period collapse. No longer laughable. WTH is wrong, and why haven’t they figured it out yet?

    It's funny how the "fans" continue to put the blame on Jarry lmao. There was nothing he could on the third goal, and it's our offenses fault during that third period. They took 1-2 penalties, and couldn't sustain any pressure that entire 3rd period. If they can't do that, you're bound to lose. Your defense can't spend 75% of the time in their defensive zone.

    Rust, Pettersson, Dumoulin, O'Connor, Ruhwedel, Bonino, Kulikov! This club doesn't need it! It's also time to change the coach, who has been in power for too long!
