  1. Such an interesting prospect. Expect him to do a lot next year in Frolunda. From what ive heard he is probaby going to get a bigger role next year with PP2, not sure where to put him in the lineup tho, dont think he is good enough for first line, MAYBE good enough for the second line. I expect him to start on a third line with pp2 ice time, maybe 12-14 min a game.

Fellow Detroit prospect and also Frounda player Theodor Niederbach has to get some ice time as well on a pretty stacked Frolunda team, hopefully coach ends up giving them a bigger role next year. Big year comig up 🙂

  2. A great pick, after all how many 1st, 2nd, 3rd rounders make it, ? taking a Giant who can actually play the game makes total sense !!. Perhaps in this years draft the Wings should draft the smallest player available, last pick the Wings select from Japan Aito Iguchi, again what are the odds that any last pick makes it ? and this kid has MOVES ! with a little protection skating by his side, Nick Suz, is not that much bigger, yes I know he is in a sort of way but there are some small guys out there doing ok and this would be a very late pick. Keep giving us hope Mr.Y,,Go Wings Go !!!!

  3. Saw some of his play at the wjc and was impressed with his skills for a 7th round pick. Might just become the Wings late round steals.

  4. I don't think he'll become anything too crazy in the NHL (like a Zetterberg level steal), but I do think he has plenty of potential as a physical, semi-skilled 3rd liner with net-front presence, if he pans out. Let's hope he can do that.

  5. Judging from your latest video, Elmer Soderblom certainly looks like a potentially intriguing future option for the Red Wings, going forwards, doesn't he?!

Under Steve Yzerman's great leadership, the Red Wings appear to be heading down a path that prioritizes skill, speed and high hockey IQ players. The addition of Jakub Vranna is a good example of this particular direction and the arrival of other new DRW players like: Joe Veleno, Jonatan Berggren, Lucas Raymond etc., on the scene, is unlikely to leave Detroit short of dynamic, attacking players in the next 2-3 years. However, as the current state of play in the NHL shows, even teams with a decent smattering of faster, relatively lighter, skilled players, sometimes struggle when they lack a larger, heavier, more physically imposing (balancing) dimension to their play. Teams like the Lightning and the Islanders, are pretty good examples of how to get that balance just about right, I believe.

At six feet, six inches, Elmer Soderblom could certainly add an imposing, physical presence to the Red Wings' future play. In addition, his potential ability to make himself into an annoying and very effective scoring and screening presence in front of opponents' goals (not unlike the shorter, lighter and yet devastatingly effective Thomas Holmstrom, in Detroit teams of years past🏒!), would certainly make him a potentially attractive 3rd line option for the Red Wings, in years to come.

I would guess that Soderblom may potentially be looking at another year in the SHL, prior to a move across to the AHL/Grand Rapids, now. Realistically, therefore, I think that he might then be looking at a Detroit debut, sometime late on in 2022/23 or beyond. Steve Yzerman's always a patient, purposeful long-term planner, of course, so that particular timeframe would present no likely problems for him at all.

As that superb bit of creativity and thinking for his first goal against Finland (in your video), showed, Soderblom's deft stick handling, decent skating ability and nice scoring touch, all strongly suggest that the Red Wings should be giving him some serious consideration (as a potential new addition to their regular lineup), sometime in the next couple of seasons.

Congratulations on reaching the '500+ subscribers' mark, recently🎉! Here's hoping that you make it up to '5,000' or so, by the start of the new season🤞!!

  6. Only thing I remember about Elmer after the WJC is he took a run at Moritz Seider.
Seider anticipated it and put Elmer down on the ice.

  7. UPDATE: Though 12 games for Froluna in the SHL, Soderblom has 5 goals and 3 assists for 8 points. This is even more impressive when you consider that Frolunda's system usually results in lower points.
