  1. As much as I hate to complain every time the penguins lose I will anyway. Yes they played well for most of the game but I will never trust Jarry or Desmith with any lead in any game ever. So is Jarry a good goaltender? Yes he is but I’ve seen this movie before and I know how it ends. My advice for the organization is to have a lot of bobble head giveaways over the next five years

  2. What we are seeing with this franchise right now is embarrassing, more embarrassing than Jarry’s performance or the entire team’s inability to win defensive zone face offs (looking at you Sid, supposed to be a leader)…

At least when it comes to the pirates and Steelers I know what we are getting already, but it’s a new kind of bitterness to watch Hextall destroy our city’s hockey team.

  3. I would go to swayman since he's a free agent and Boston probably doesn't have the money to resign him. Jarry lets too many easy ones in.

  4. No accountability?? What do you want, DK? There is too much respect to throw a particular player under a bus in explaining a loss. Should Sully come right out and declare his starting goaltender is fragile and also not a big time performer? What good would that do?

  5. This loss stings DK. The fact of the matter is OBJECTIVELY for the vast majority of this game we played our guts out and played the right way. Even for the third period when the islanders were pushing back. Sometimes there’s teams regardless of the sport regardless of how bad or how good you are or they are playing you can’t beat them no matter what and for the pens that’s the islanders rn. And the islanders got some ridiculously lucky bounces late in the game too. I’m proud of the effort we gave tonight. At the end of the day at least we got a point for all our hard work.

  6. I will only agree with you by the fact Carter basically cost us the game. All he had to do was not touch the puck with the high stick but he did 🤦🏼‍♂️🤦🏼‍♂️🤦🏼‍♂️

  7. Life is too short to watch the pens this season. They aren't going anywhere even if they make the playoffs. This GM has decided to double down on numerous things in a bad way. I'm tired of listening to this broken record every game. I'm out. See you next season. 😐

  8. Jarry is a joke. That kid will never be the goalie that mgt thinks he is. He is simply a sieve. The organization will continue to lose big games with Jarry in net!

  9. DK: blowing another 2 goal lead, especially on home ice vs the Islanders is inexcusable. What will it take to make Carter a healthy scratch?

  10. I don't understand how on one hand Sullivan can state he isn't changing anything on the PP because they have a high "expected goals" and then on the other hand ignore every damn advanced stat telling him Jeff Carter shouldn't even be on the ice… let a lone getting 14+ minutes a game.

At least Sullivan's love affair with Simon was somewhat backed up by advanced stats… But it still looks pretty bad that the player Sullivan wasted the better part of two seasons trying to convince the world should be playing on the top line is no longer in the league after leaving the organization. Not only that he never even sniffed third line minutes on the much worse teams he played on after the Penguins. Simon is an AHLer, not good enough to play in the top 9 and lacks the grit of a 4th liner. Sullivan skated him on the top line FOREVER. Absurdity.

Sullivan was the right coach for the job. Was. He isn't a great coach. He is stubborn and arrogant and it really has hindered the team in the past 3+ seasons. He has no plan to ever adjust what he is doing to fit the make up of the players he has. He will cherry picks advanced stats when it useful to justify what he is doing and ignore them when it isn't.

He needed to be gone a while ago. They aren't winning anything with him again, that ship has sailed.

  11. Management needs to be gone after this season.. Burke and hextall seem to think it’s 2016 still with their roster moves. The whole Nylander situation makes no sense to me.. I’d much rather have him in the lineup than carter, O’Connor, Heinen, or archibald. He has so much more potential than those 4 players

  12. DK, I’ve been a long time subscriber to your daily shots and really enjoy them regardless of how gut wrenching the topics may be. That being said, we’ve seen that this team is capable of scoring large amounts of goals in short amounts of time. The team has also shown it can blow seemingly insurmountable leads in the same fashion. The Detroit game a few weeks ago immediately comes to mind. Do you think that this team can ever find a shred of consistency with the roster as it is? It is becoming extremely apparent that the kids down in Wilkes Barrie will only get a chance if one of the older guys gets hurt, which would typically make sense, but in our Stanley Cup years from 16 and 17, we wouldn’t have come to close to winning without the likes of Murray, Rust, Sheary and Guentzel, among others, coming up and injecting some youth into the line up. What is Hextall thinking???

  13. We need consistent goal tending. Yes they D needs to step up, but way to many soft goals. Jarry, or Casey aren’t the answers. Hasn’t been for years now. I’m watching wasted years of the big 3, due to sub par goaltending. I’ll I can hope for at this point, is one of them to catch fire enough to make a cup run. First we need to get in the playoffs…

  14. Is it me or does it feel like ever since the sale of the team they aren’t playing as hard as they used to?

  15. When you give players and an HC guaranteed extensions (with NMC's), how do you expect to have accountability? I should note that I hammered the Carter contract, the Sullivan contract, and the contracts last summer right here when they all happened. And was mocked by DK and his merry team of followers.

    Apology accepted

  16. Remember the day when the Pens could convert a 1 goal lead into a win with consistency? I hate to say this, but I think this team is choking..across the board. We see all the time what they are capable of…It just doesnt match many of the outcomes when they have these collapses..plenty of blame/choking to go around. …I also consider it choking when the GM does the bonehead deal of acquiring Granland. I think he did it because of outside pressure. Where did this deal get us? Is he better than guys we already have in the system who arent even playing? and look how much he spent on him.

  17. And yet with the weekend they have the chance to go 7 1 and 1 in the last 9…..so the wins aren't good enough and the losses are blown way up. The isles games sucked but 5 1 and 1 in last 7 isn't a blow up the ship run. Change power play and some other things but people haven't forgiven them for the heart breaking losses even if they are part of a winning section. Just like they have gotten at least a point in 25 of jarrys 32 starts this year and pittsburgh is acting like he sucks. Sure he has had a couple bad games but to outright lose only 7 of 32 is first place stuff. Too bad for the injury or this talk is way different. maybe it will end up being a good thing. They will be top wild card, would have placed without the goalie injury, but they need to clean up pp and finishing at the same time. It's OK to notice they are doing well right now to get 11 out of possible 14 points and also to notice it should have been 12.

  18. 0-4 against the Islanders, 0-4 against Carolina, currently 0-3 against Jersey and you can bet your ass they're going to sweep up as well. Oh, and we have the Rangers 3 times next week which I fully expect us to go 1-2 at best and wouldn't be surprised if we go 0-3. I have no idea how this team is in position for a playoff spot.

  19. Its been obvious for years and now they are throwing it in your face. This team is broken! You still have some great players but come on?!?!?! If burke is an actual president not just a figure head dude should can hextal and sully this morning. Don't have a new coach? Ok Velluchi can do it for now. Eventually someone has to say this can't go on.

  20. The fact that there was zero moves on goaltending told me everything I need to know. No chance you make it anywhere in the playoffs with our pair. Look at the past few seasons, no idea why Hextall thought we were good there.

  21. The Jeff Carter contract restrictions are dumbfounding and should be an automatic termination of Hextall 1 minute after the season ends which won't include the playoffs.

  22. You touched on it yesterday, but i do not understand the blind loyalty to Carter. Dumo should be scratched but I can understand loyalty to him. But Jeff has only been here a year and is 39, how he isnt even dropped to line 4 especially after seeing how Nylander player and other guys. Really questioning Sully I love him as a coach but doing this makes you wonder

  23. This has been going on for quite some time. It starts with Sully on down. How many times have we heard Sully say "I think we played well enough to win". No, no you didn't Pens. They didn't play well enough to win, because if they had, they would have won. The entire team fails to put the blame on themselves and you're right, it doesn't get better until guys take responsibility.

  24. Forgot to mention the islanders really are the pens KRYPTONITE. Tampa bay can say the same about us the last 3-4 years. Hockey is wierd!! I guess onto the next one in this roller coaster season!!!

  25. No way the Pens should have lost last night. Not enough pride not enough price being paid…… Jarry should have been gone 2 years ago. Says Mr. Obvious. Sad

  26. Last 10 minutes last night was all in Penguins zone in the 3rd,no offense at all! I knew they’d blow the game!

  27. Excellent DK If no one does anything wrong, it's time for some changes. Its the negative attitude and being defensive after the game instead of during the game. Thanks, DK, for al that you do.

  28. Jeff Carter ISNT the problem. It’s Sullivan probably telling the team too sit back when they have a lead. Not changing his tactics the pp dominated, sure but they didn’t have anything around the net it’s all passing outside and on the point. You got ranger Sid and Geno passing the puck insanely at the point and MAYBE… getting a shot on.
